Lucia, I Just Met A Girl Named Lucia

With Uptown's proximity to Edgewater, it was inevitable that a little Swedish culture would become part of the seasonal norm.

Tonight the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Swedish-American Museum present the Santa Lucia Festival of Lights, "a torch-lit procession down the sidewalks of Clark Street at 4:45 p.m., kicking off at the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark St.  The procession highlight is the appearance of the specially chosen 'Lucia Girls,' who will lead the crowd, wearing long white robes and beautiful crowns of candles and singing The Lucia Song. Children and adults are welcome to join in the procession."

You can read more about the legend of St Lucia here.  After that's over, head over to Baker & Nosh, not only for the Tree Lighting festivities at 5:30, but also for the Lucia buns, a traditional Swedish Christmas treat.  Read more about this Swedish delicacy here, and pick some up or place an order while you're at Baker & Nosh anyway.
