New Construction On Kenmore?

In May 2008, Uptown Update reported that demolition had begun on the Christopher House pre-school location at 4303 N Kenmore.  The property had been sold in 2007 to a developer, who planned to build a condo building on the double lot there.

The demolition left a lot of rubble, which rhymes with housing bubble, which was bursting just about at that time, and to no one's great surprise, the lot has stood empty for over five years while developers try to find their footing again.

An astute neighbor of the property noticed that there's been some construction equipment on the lot this week, and that's probably an indication of something going up at some point on the vacant space.  He says, "I don't know what's planned for there as I couldn't find anything online.  I guess the real estate recovery is underway.  Most probably a six-eight unit building given the lot size. Condo?  Apartments?   The pics look similar to the earlier pics.  I hope it turns out better this time."

So do we.

  1. Well that's a minor bit of good news on the escalator that is the Uptown real estate market. With this and that newer building on Montrose west of Clark perhaps we will see some of the smaller vacant land parcels be developed into lovely condos. Condos for folks who will live, shop, dine and vote in our lovely Uptown hood. There aren't that many smaller parcels around, but if they're developed we could see a few hundred new neighbors. Oh and I forgot the former Hull House property now being developed and awaiting the return of Magilla Gorilla.

Add in the FLATS developments which have moved from their glacial pace to a more Arctic ice retreating pace and there's some good stuff happening here.

Don't forget Maryville. That should be over 1000 new neighbors right there. More people means fewer vacant storefronts and better shopping and dining.

What we need in this ward is more density. I'm all for density. Ask anyone who know me and they will say "He's friggin' dense".

Here's my musical interlude for a disappearing vacant lot.
