The Rumor Mill : Transformers 4 Coming To Uptown Theater?

It's pretty common knowledge that Transformers 4 will be shooting in Chicago this summer into autumn.  But a reader has a surprising claim regarding one of the shooting locations:

"There has been a lot of activity around the Riviera and the Uptown the last few days.  It looks like the Riviera’s roof has contractors working on it and the Uptown Theatre’s doors along Lawrence have been open and stuff going on there the last few days.  I learned that the next Transformers’ movie will be filmed there."

Say whaaaaa---?  We called the Chicago Film Office to find out what we could.  The very nice lady we spoke with told us that they are not able to confirm or deny any filming locations, but that it would be shooting "in the area."  She also said not all the filming locations have been locked in yet.

Our reader explained that he talked to people outside the theater about what was going on inside, and that's what they told him.

So, there you have it, a Class A Uptown rumor.  Time will tell whether or not it pans out.

We're running the photos for those who've never been inside the Uptown Theater.  That's what lies behind the locked doors on Broadway.  You can see the ticket booth and part of the Grand Lobby.

  5. Can Jam be forced to use any money from the movie to fix these theaters?

  6. I hope that they do not cause any further damage to the theater like the filming of Backdraft did. Any money received for filming at the Uptown Theater should have to go to the restoration and not in someone's pocket. I would also hope that the film crews would be able to park at the Aon building parking garage.

Next Transformer movie: Transformer 5 - The Transformation of the Uptown Theater.

  7. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but the diaper is finally off the Riviera. They are also doing some tuckpointing along Lawrence. JAM is a less than stellar steward (and neighbor) of these buildings, but I'll give them a little credit when credit is due.

  8. .....after almost 4 years and being fined daily by the City. I give them no credit. And it frightens me to think they own the Uptown Theatre
