Pay Day Loan Store Coming To Uptown?
A reader writes: "I just got a postcard in the mail about a business seeking a zoning change to open a Pay Day Loan Store at 4853 N. Broadway. This business is located in the 48th ward.
I just spoke with Osterman's office; if residents want to voice an opinion on the change, they suggested writing to harry@48thward.org."
It looks like the storefront at 4853 N Broadway, in the large strip mall across from the Post Office, was most recently "USCIS Application Support Center," for U.S. citizenship and immigration services.
If you have strong feelings about a payday loan store going into that location (which we feel is just another way lower-income people are exploited, with legal juice loans), please contact Ald. Osterman at the address given above.

Are you sure that's not a change in ownership or a renewal of some sort? It's been a payday loan store for the year and a half that I've been here.
ReplyDeleteUptown has a multiple pawn shops, methadone clinics, soup trucks, buy for gold, ect.. These pay day loans are like 300% interest so it is indeed exploiting the low income folks. It will attract itinerants from other parts of the city also.
