Uptown Group Wins Largest Poetry Slam

A reader writes:  "The team portion of the slam poetry competition Louder Than a Bomb was just won by Uptown's own Kuumba Lynx team.  It was amazing.  I don't have much in the way of details -- I was volunteering and tearing tickets at the event -- but there was a shoutout to 900 W. Wilson in one of the poems, and the kids were amazing all around.

If you're not familiar with the competition, it's a pretty beautiful thing... high school kids and poetry, captured pretty well in this documentary.  I hope you can give them a shoutout on the website.  The competition was tough, but they were incredible."

The competition started in 2001 and is the largest in the country.  This year's competition began with over 900 contestants, and the finals took place at the Cadillac Palace Theater downtown.  You can read more about it here and here.  Congratulations to the winning team!
