Hotel Chateau Court Hearing On November 13

The Chateau Hotel SRO has quite a few serious building code violations and will be in Housing Court later this month.  Lake View Patch has more:

After a string of recent failed building inspections at Hotel Chateau, its owners are headed to court, and Lake View residents are planning ways they can let judges know they’ve had enough.

The 19th Police District Court Advocacy Group held a meeting Tuesday night to let residents know that simply coming to the Nov. 13 court date as a silent bystander means more than people think.

Read about what's going on at the Chateau and what you can do.  The entire article is here.

  1. Wilson Men's Hotel should be the one to go.

  3. Pirate, yes there are no ceilings just chicken wire. It is very loud inside the building as well. IMO the owner has some "pull" with the city.

  5. I agree that the Chateau and Wilson mens' club are total holes, but they do meet the housing needs of those that live there. If they are shut down, where will the current residents live? Will comparably priced housing be created to replace what would be lost by the closing of Chateau and/or Wilson Mens' Club or will there simply be an increase in the number of homeless? The average person who lives at either place receives less than $700 a month in income, so their housing options would be very limited which is why they are where they're at in the first place.

  6. Sean, there are hundreds, if not thousands. of vacant buildings available for rehab throught out the city. The Bronzeville area and Garfield Park areas in particular had a tremendous amount of foreclosures.. let's start there. The lack of housing stock is not an issue.

  7. Well Uptown, it doesn't sound as if those places are currently available for habitation as they are in need of rehab. And if those buildings you are thinking of can be rehabbed so people can move in, then so can the Chateau.

  8. Just passed by this location and wouldn't you know, one of the "good" tenants - the computer store/internet cafe - is gone. Wonder if they left of their own accord, for whatever reason, or were forced out as part of the approaching rehab.
