Gone Fishin'

We're going to see temperatures in the 70s this week before it all takes a nosedive and chilly weather arrives at the end of the week.

So it may be the last days to catch some fish at Montrose Harbor.

Did you know that you can check out fishin' poles at the Uptown branch library at 929 W Buena?  Just like a book or movie, use your library card.

The Bezazian branch at 1226 W Ainslie doesn't have sporting goods, but it does offer materials to fit Uptown's diversity:  reading materials in African, Bosnian, Chinese, Croatian, Indian, Serbian, Spanish and Vietnamese languages, a Jewish Heritage Collection, and a Native American Heritage Collection.

  1. I spotted those fishing poles in that library branch a few years ago and they were in bad shape. Fishing doesn't seem like a "let's go try this" kind of activity. I believe they just rent poles, right? So... lures, tackle box, net, etc. - you're on your own for that. Never mind the disappointment from a line breaking and not knowing how to tie appropriate knots.

Fishing is great fun, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to bag on the idea. I'd just like to know if they provide the whole package or not.

  2. For clarity's sake, the Bezazian Branch does not have Bosnian, Serbian or Croation materials and our only African title is a French language magazine. But we do have so many other resources including an extensive Chicago history collection, 100+ magazines you can check out, children's storytimes, interesting displays and databases that cover everything from genealogy research to language instruction. We also proudly host many community groups in our auditorium including the Neighborhood Writing Alliance weekly writing workshop.

Thank you for mentioning us and we will see you at Bezazian soon!
