"City In A Garden" / Gardens In The City

From Ald. Cappleman's latest newsletter:

Cash Prizes for Best Public Gardening Space

One way to promote public safety and discourage littering is through gardening in public spaces. It sends a message that people care about their community.

To promote this in both Uptown and Lake View, Ald. Cappleman is giving a $250 award (one for each neighborhood) to the best garden in a public community space. It could be at a street corner or gardening along the curb in front of your home. Ald. Cappleman will select judges from two neighborhood groups to judge the contest, and the two winners each win $250.

Judging will take place toward the end of August. Submit your garden photos to info@james46.org. Please include your name, address, and contact information. Deadline is Saturday, August 25th.

  1. I nominate my good neighbor John Hunt. He maintains the four corners at Malden and Leland as well as the front of our building and several other spots.

He has the greenest thumb of anyone I've ever met. AND he is pushing 80 years old......

  2. Reminds me of "Pothole Gardening"... which I'd love to see in Uptown!
