Uptowner Dies In Heat Wave

Sadly, an Uptown resident died in the heat wave last week.  Rubin Martinez, of the 4500 block of Clark, passed away, with heat stress determined to be a contributing factor in his death.  According to the Tribune, he was in his 70s and was a barber by profession.  Our thoughts go out to those who loved him.

The heat is back, with high humidity and temperatures in the 90s for at least the next week.  Please, keep in touch with your elderly and vulnerable neighbors, and those who may not have air conditioning.  Be a good Samaritan and make that check-up phone call or call 311 for a well-being check.  A list of the area's cooling centers is here.
