Ribbon Cutting At Buttercup Park On Saturday

  1. I was in the park this weekend and saw that it's a really lovely place for children to play in. However, there are currently no benches for adults and seniors to sit in. There are one or two metal tables with slats to sit on, but this seating is extremely difficult to get in and out of. Buttercup is a playground for kids, but it would be nice to have a space in which people of all ages could interact.

  2. My wife just witnessed a 20-25 'person' fight at our beautiful new park. At noon. On a Friday. We've been there multiple times and each time leave when some group of teenagers starts dropping f-bombs and hitting each other. I have an 8 month old swinging in the swing and they don't have a second thought about running full blast into him. Took months to build and only few days to ruin. This isn't just good old fashion rough-housing as some may say. And yes, we have called the cops and will continue to do so. Something needs to be done to show that this is not tolerated at the park. Its a place for kids and families. Not a hangout for thugs to slug it out or try to smash the equipment all of our taxes paid for. I spoke with the Alderman's office and we were not the first to complain. If you call the police...call the alderman's office second. It's a great park with great people around it...it would be a shame to let some bad apples dictate when its safe to go to the park the same way they dictate which intersections/areas feel safe to walk through.

  3. benches (3 of them) have been added to the plaza area this week. there are also walls for sitting at each end of the plaza. the play-lot area also has walls that are at sitting hight, intended for that purpose.

  4. You should ask the Alderman for a Blue Light security camera for the park.... He could probably expedite it if enough asked and he felt it important..

  5. Be sure to go to the ribbon cutting tomorrow and express your concerns to the alderman. He'll be right there. Talk to him and the park organizers to tell them what's going on and ask what their solution is.
