It's A Puzzlement

Anyone know anything about "Fezziwig's and Sons," spotted next to Man's Country on the 5000 block of Clark last week?

  1. I don't know, but I wonder if Scrooge will be working there?

  2. Is that a real sign ? It looks Photoshopped.

  3. They're filming a new movie called Scrooge & Marley - a lot of it is being filmed in Uptown/Andersonville

  4. My boyfriend saw Bruce Vilanch entering the building in a gold lamé choir robe. IMDB lists his role as Fezziwig.

  5. If Michael is correct, here's a link:

    Scrooge & Marley (2012)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2262073/

Scrooge & Marley is a modern variation on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Recounted from a gay sensibility with heart, comedy & music, the magic of Dickens' timeless tale of a man's redemption comes alive from a fresh perspective.

    Rusty Schwimmer ... Freda
Megan Cavanagh ... Ghost of Christmas Present
    Tim Kazurinsky ... Marley
    Bruce Vilanch ... Fezziwig

  6. What is "Mans Country"? Is it a good business for the community?

  7. Google it. They don't serve booze, so you'll approve.

  8. CN is absolutely right.

I think Man's Country is your cup of tea AmericanLt. It's a long term solid business that doesn't deal in any alcohol.

Man's Country has helped turn the once flaccid South Andersonville/ Clark street business strip into a memorable shopping and destination experience.

    Check it out.

  9. americanlt, for all your mincing about "booze", you need to know that the owner of Man's Country has a wide and varied set of businesses over many decades--including one of the first gay BARS. He has also been a politically-active gay philanthropist. See http://www.glhalloffame.org/index.pl?todo=view_item&item=11

As to whether Man's Country is a "good business for the community", it has been a WONDERFUL business for the community and beyond, for longer than you even knew that Uptown existed. And it doesn't need your "approval", either.

  10. It seems like that bar on Granville called the Anvil or something. Uptown needs dry cleaners, bookstore, sewing shops, pet store ect...As long as the community & police tolerate the "quality of life" crimes (public drinking being one) Uptown will never improve.

  11. I personally would like to thank americanlt for your comments. They provide endless entertainment. We can always count on you for an amusing reminder about your thoughts on the demon liquor and it's devastating effects on Uptown.

  12. American Lt Uptown has 8 dry Cleaners that I know of, shake rattle and read, is a bookstore, Soggy Paws is a great Pet store. So I disagree with your assertion that having more of what we already have will make the area more vibrant.

Perhaps we need some more bars, a comic book store, and a pornography store.

  13. I've had the thought for awhile that AmericanLt is either a failed Mormon missionary or an online artist engaged in some ongoing internet performance art.

    Dry cleaners?

Asking what Man's Country is and whether it's a good business.

If he's for real he should really start writing for the Onion. He wouldn't realize it if he's for real, but he is one funny anti alcohol tight ass.

  14. If americanLt *IS* for real, I can picture him/her finding out what has gone on for decades (without public complaints) inside Man's Country...and having a similar reaction to the Martians in "MARS ATTACKS!" after hearing Slim Whitman's "Indian Love Call".

    *snicker*

  15. I don't know, Beary.

I can kind of picture AmericanLt standing across the street from Man's Country with his faithful poodle, Mr Poochy, standing at his side whilst peeing on passerbys. That would be the dog peeing, not AmericanLt.

I can close my eyes and see it now. So close, AmericanLt, yet so far.
