Update On Today's Shooting

An email update from Ald. Cappleman to his mailing list:

"Today, at approximately 2:30 p.m., 3 shots were fired across the street from my office near the corner of Wilson and Broadway.  The offender, believed to have been selling narcotics, fired three shots at a passing rival, missing his intended target and injuring an innocent bystander in the calf.  The offender fled on foot, leaving his vehicle.  19th District Police were quick on the scene and are currently investigating strong leads on the suspect. The police have assured me that the victim is recovering.

I am meeting with the 19th District Commander, John Kenny, tomorrow to discuss our on-going effort to improve safety and stop violence in the 46th Ward.  As summer approaches, I will continue to work with the police to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in the 46th ward.

Here's what you can do now:

The incident took place in the new 1914 police beat. There is a CAPS meeting tomorrow night for this area that you can attend at Sheridan Plaza, 4706 4607 N. Sheridan at 7:00 p.m."

  1. I heard a single gunshot, then people shouting, a little before 8pm tonite around Sheridan and Ainslie. Not sure if this was related to this afternoon. I called 911.
