Person Shot Monday Afternoon

There were reports of shots fired over the weekend, but no reports of injuries.  Now it's happened again and it seems like someone may have been hit.  Readers are saying they heard shots fired near Wilson and Broadway around 2:20, with medical and police present at the scene.  Bad news for everyone.  Can these gun-toting idiots please go back into hibernation?

Update:  It apparently happened at 4545 Broadway and one person was shot.

Update:  Alderman Cappleman has sent out an email with details about the shooting.

  1. A guy I'm dating said he just made a tourniquet for the guy that was hit in the ankle.

I was going to go to Target tonight. He found a kitchen rack that fits my needs.

    I'll order it online.

  2. You should still go to Target, there are other routes besides Broadway. If we fear the gangs that gives them more power, if we fight with peace and assertiveness they will lose.

  3. I don't know why these guys don't just move to the suburbs! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

  4. The only fear the gangs have is from these guys, Smith & Wesson. Lets hope the summer does not turn once again into the O.K.Corral in Uptown.

  5. This makes me really sad, especially for being a student at Truman. It's hard enough to get a pubic education, now I have to worry about getting shot trying to get there? I've been going to that school for over a year and multiple shootings have occurred in the area. Can't they do something about the loitering around there?

  6. The loitering across the street from Truman near the old mall and the Asian restaurant has to stop. Some of the gangbangers even hang out right in front of Truman now. I'm sick of it. The other day in my Bio class a man walked in and wrote a gang sign on the board, "LKN", and walked out after screaming "This looks like a fun Sex Education class!" Truman's security didn't even bother trying to go after him.

  7. Well it sounds like loitering is still occuring in the area.
Truman really needs to step it up and call that stuff in to 911 if they cant handle it. There will never ever ever be an end to shooting if any loitering is tolerated. It just wont, ever, ever, ever, ever.

We are having a pretty good fight on our hands keeping Morse Loiter Free. This loitering on Wilson always, always, always, always needs to be called in. Otherwise you are allowing the bangers to get comfortable. And the gunfire will never ever ever ever ever end.

    :)
    The End.

or...we could simply stop enabling them with free housing and "services"

... or we could stop choking off the police force (note how we haven't added any more cops while we lose ~50/mo).

.. or we could start holding parents of the under-aged GBDs accountable.

... or we could stop rotating the GBDs through the "penal" system every couple of years.

... or we could ferret out the current politicians who cater to the GBDS and replace them with people who honestly care about the health of the city.

There are a lot of things that can be done, and yet ... we don't do any of them - and numerous reasons as to why not.

If all that we've done is all that we're going to do, we may as well give Chicago to the gangs and leave before the city erupts into a Kurt Russel movie.

What we're continuing to witness are the results of complete societal breakdown resulting from a slew of greedy, nutless politicians.

Thanks to James for being the only (so far) alderman who's made any statement when a shooting's occurred in his ward.

The worthless zygotes on the south and west sides just simply don't seem to care.

  10. We should take these troubled young men into our homes to teach them the proper way to live life. A clean life. It's our responsibility. We are all one family. If we don't do it... who will?

meh, it has been token rhetoric with little action items and not much else. It's all he can do but it isn't much.

Uptown had it's chance for rapid transformative change a decade ago when the means were there...the former ald blew it and we'll have to wait for the greater economic picture to change before James is able to have an impact.

  12. The loitering across from Truman collage is from the Wilson Mens Club. It is around $200 a month and they drink & do dope all day there. Chronic vagrancy breeds larger crime. Are those positive loitering events still going on?

  13. Alek,

I agree on the rhetoric aspect (as well as the needed development/means issue) - though however symbolic, I do appreciate James at least being consistent. When something happens, he reaches out.

I don't expect him, or any alderman, to snap their fingers and have a solution fall from the sky. I do think there is some benefit to having an alderman go on record.

Of course, there may also be benefit in going to Council and pulling a Kruschev, demanding that we stop pussy-footing around the issue for ... whatever reason (mainly political/re-election).

Nice post and i'm with you. I'm simply hinting that until the money is there for investors to sweep in and buy problem buildings like the wilson men's club with intentions beyond social services, it's going to be hard to see major changes.
