Update on Shots Fired Wednesday and Thursday

Readers have reported more shots fired Thursday night at Wilson and Kenmore, and Wednesday night at Sheridan and Winona.  Lt. Robert Stasch of the CPD says the issue is what the gangs call "the triangle":  the drugs sales turf bordered by Montrose, Lawrence and Broadway.  As the turf shrinks, territory gets more valuable, and the efforts to defend it and take it over gets more violent.  That's what's going on now.

There is a heavy concentration of police in Uptown and the response times are usually under a minute. There have been arrests in the Tuesday shooting.

All we can say is, be careful, be alert, and please call 911 if you see anything suspicious.  On Wednesday, people called in a woman public drinking near McDonald's, and the cops arrived in time to stop a gang brawl that was just beginning to form.

  2. I don't understand how the three streets listed make a triagle. Is Broadway meant to designate an eastern or western boundary?

  3. I think they meant to include Sheridan in that triangle.

  4. For the newer residents of the Uptown area this is just the start of the shooting season around here. Because of the unusual warm weather coming sooner, the gangs also have started shooting sooner. Lets hope it can be kept under control by the CPD, Alderman and neighbors dialing 911 as needed.

  5. After nearly 10 years of living in Uptown, my husband and i moved away last month. We thank God we got out alive and now that we're in another neighborhood, we ask ourselves why we waited so long Farewell, Uptown We tried, but honestly, life is so much nicer without roaming gangbangers terrorizing the area.
