Gas Pains

With gas prices shooting up as much as 20¢ overnight lately, we thought we'd perform a public service and show some prices around Uptown.  These were taken Tuesday afternoon, supposedly the day with the best prices of the week. We may not see 'em much lower anytime sooner.

  1. The BP on Lawrence/Marine has had those prices posted since last week when the price of regular went from $4.09 to $4.19 in one day, then the next day popped to $4.29.

They're fairly constantly $0.10/gal above anyone else and often are the poster child for the highest gas prices in the city - and that's saying something.

I don't have to drive too often, so I don't have to buy much gas - but when I do, I avoid that place like the plague.

  2. Unless your vehicle is of improbable design -- fuel-efficient, but with a large tank -- driving to Indiana probably isn't your best financial play. (Or, of course, unless you live or work down on the South Side anyway...)

The better approach, I think, is a Costco membership.

  3. That Lawerence/Marine station is the highest I ever seen in the area and their car wash is the worse yet. They recycle through pumps dirty used water, the soap hardly ever comes out and the wax is just plain water. If they gave rip off awards they would win easy.

  4. I just bought a Diesel Jetta. Glad I did. Diesel is now the cheapest fuel like it used to be before the last 5 or 6 years. In the late 90's and till the Oil Wars diesel was less than $1 a gallon!
