The vacant ground floor offices of the Uptown Broadway Building have paper up in the windows and you can see a drop ceiling being installed. No official word yet (we're working on it), but rumor has it that the new tenant will be offices for Children's Memorial Hospital.
I did a little search and found the following: http://chicago.everyblock.com/building-permits/oct04-permit-issued-renovation-alteration-4321198/
ReplyDelete"Drop ceiling being installed" and "Children's Memorial Hospital" - color me not excited. I'm sure Children's Memorial will be a great neighbor and there is a need, but not what I envisioned for the "Entertainment District."
ReplyDeleteGuess we have to be thankful a paying tenant ;-(
Miss Kitty, I agree that it sounds like kind of a snooze, but something is better than nothing..There's been a lot of recent talk about businesses in Andersonville closing because the rent is too damn high. However, just a few blocks south we have an abundance of vacant store fronts in Uptown.
ReplyDeleteMay not be the most exciting tenant, but it's steady, good reputation, and one less empty storefront. I can think of lots worst, and there's still the "speakeasy" basement available to lend a "cachet" tenant to the 'hood.
ReplyDeleteOne would hope that if it is a medical office, that the windows will not be all blocked up. Part of the charm of street level retail is to be able to look in store windows and see into the store. A lot of medical offices cover more than half of the windows with signage or blinds creating a wall effect.
