Uptown Resident Charged with CTA Robberies

A Chicago man has been charged with using a sawed-off shotgun to rob people in two CTA Red Line stations on Saturday, officials said today.

Sylvester Curry, 18, of the 4600 block of North Beacon Street, is charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm, police said.

He is charged with robbing the people on the Sheridan and Loyola stops, police said.

The Sheridan stop robberies occurred at 3:20 a.m. Saturday on the platform in the 3900 block of North Sheridan Road, police said.

The victims, a 20-year-old woman and two men, ages 20 and 25, were waiting for a train when a man came up, took the shotgun from his backpack and aimed it at them, according to police.

The man demanded cell phones from the three and fled, police said. The victims were not injured.

Earlier, about 1:45 a.m., armed with a shotgun, a robber approached a 22-year-old man who was waiting for a train on the platform at the Loyola stop, according to police. The man demanded the other man's cell phone and then fled, according to a police.

The suspect was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of West Brink Avenue in northwest suburban Harvard in McHenry County, police said. A sawed-off shotgun was recovered, police said.
