Shots Fired Overnight Near Sunnyside & Hazel

Lots of reports coming in of shots fired just around 12:30am near Sunnyside & Hazel. One reader reported hearing the shots, then seeing an African-American male dressed in all black running north on Hazel. All of our readers reported the shots to 911. Maybe it is time for a police camera in this area?

  1. I heard the 6-8 shots. And my car has 3 bullet holes in it today! Nice!

  4. Disappointed to see that hours after the shooting the police hadn't investigated or investigated enough to at least recover the shell casings, presuming the ones Concerned found were from that shooting.

  6. It was at 12:25 and eleven casings makes sense because it was eleven shots: five, then a very short pause, and then six more. I was at home in bed reading (I'm one building west of Sunnyside and Hazel) and was about to call 911, but thought I heard sirens coming . . . only to hear them go away. I admit I did not call. Did anyone? I'm sick of feeling like I am always the one to call the police, but I didn't see anything, I just heard the shots.

  8. When I got off work last night, I decided to walk from broadway and Wilson home. What I noticed was the street was bare and the police saturated the whole area and I mean literally the whole area. Someone told me thee was a shooting earlier that afternoon. Ok. Now. Where we're they last night/early morning??? I must have seen aprox. 20 police cars and trucks and I only had to walk about 7 blocks.. Just thinking about Halloween .

  9. The casings were at the corner of Sunnyside & Hazel on the NW side. There was one in front of the sidewalk and the others were more towards the street. I was walking with a neighbor discussing hearing the shots fired when I noticed them around 8:15am. Since I only heard about 10 (11 is probably more accurate) I am not sure how 11 other shell casings could have been picked up. I did not pick them up since it is a crime scene (sorry about the holes in your car raphael), but I did contact the police when I got to my office to inform them the casings were still there.

  14. My police friend tells me those cameras do not help much. They are low quality video & some are even broken.
They also make are neighborhood look low class.

  15. There was a shooting also on Clarendon & Winsdor about 3am with 20-25 shots w/ an automatic. 1 innocent person gunned down leaving LVT going home, who did not even live on this side of town. Our streets & corners need to be covered in prayer...This is so sad!!

  16. AmericanLt, last night a small store was robbed on my beat. I went into the station after it was all over and tried to view a POD to see if I could identify any possible offenders. Not only could I not do that, I couldn't even identify my own squad car because of the poor quality of the cameras. All I could see was the blue lights on top of a white vehicle! I couldn't even identify ME as I exited my squad. The cameras suck. They are a waste of money and the time spent watching them.

  18. any response from the aldermann on the increasing violence, progress with problem buildings, anything beyond token appeasement. Things are getting worse and worse down there and i'm getting the impression the ald isn't willing to play hardball
