Shooting At Sunnyside & Sheridan

Not much info besides a UU team member who just passed the intersection around 2:45pm and saw police tape and lots of squad cars. A reader also tells us that it was apparently a drive-by shooting that sounded like "automatic weapons."
Add any additional info in the comments.

  1. Passing by I saw about 6 bullet casings (fairly large) on Sunnyside & eastside of Sheridan. Across the street (southbound) there was a maroon minivan with the rear passenger side window blown out. Apparently one person was shot.

  2. I got off the train at Wilson around 2:30ish, a bunch of people standing around looking scared of confused. A fire engine was driving down Wilson, and an undercover cop speeding down Wilson, there were about 2-3 other cop cars down by Truman near Sunnyside already. Since the crowds were so big I didn't want to take my chances trying to walk down Wilson, so I took Montrose home. Halloween brings out more than one kind of scary.

  3. I was outside my building when the shots were fired. Definitely an automatic weapon; the shots were fired in rapid succession.

Saw the man go down. Didn't look critically injured, but he was holding his side.

  5. I was inside at my computer when I heard the shots (I live right by that intersection). It was about 2:36 PM. Sounded like automatic gunfire to me too.

I turned on the police scanner and they were saying that there was one wounded with a GSW to the buttocks. The car involved was a black PT Cruiser.

  6. I just want to say to those who are posting as witnesses to crimes, you probably don't want your profile picture up. You might want to stay anonymous for your own protection & privacy.
Think about it: You're posting as a witness to a crime, with your photo up for everyone to see. Probably not the smartest move.

  7. Colie-unfortunately it isn't halloween that brings out the scary in uptown--just lookj at the past few days with four shootings before today and todays in broad daylight--I heard it from one block north and yes it was an auto...it's craziness here--we may as well be living in the middle of Afghanistan.

  8. Colie - All the people you saw at Wilson were from Truman. It was evacuated at around 1 or so because of a bomb threat.

  10. As a witness to the INFAMOUS Montrose Halloween shooting last year, nothing surprises me anymore.
The only time I feel like I live in a 'normal' community is walking to the Metra train at 7 each morning, when I pass 'normal' people walking their dogs.
