The World Of Forgotten Trains

Salon Magazine has an article about the Electroliner trains that once ran on the North Shore Line, which ran parallel with the Red Line tracks in Uptown.  There are a lot of great photos along with the article, including the one above, which is captioned:  "Electroliner on Chicago L at Wilson Avenue January 1941 (Original Kodachrome transparency photo by Charles E. Keevil from the Walter R. Keevil collection)." You can read the Salon article here.

We love that the "blue B" of Bridgeview Bank was the yellow and red circle of Uptown Bank 70 years ago.

  1. Geez, look how grimy the Uptown Broadway Building is! Much better now. Fewer trains, maybe?

I also like seeing the triangle building that was where the current Bridgeview Bank Drive-through window is.

  2. I took a picture of one of these locomotives at the railway museum in Union. It is a "striking" carriage. You might even say "ugly, what are we, in f-ing Miami?"
