Shots Fired Tonight

Numerous readers are reporting that they heard three shots fired shortly before 8pm.  The consensus seems to be that it happened right around the alley behind 4848 North Sheridan, south of Ainslie.  Many calls to 911, and a rapid police response.

If anyone knows anything else, please post it in the comments.

UU Note:  Read the comments to find out about the arrests made, some amazing police driving, and what can happen with an increased police presence in Uptown.

  1. From a local Neighborhood Watch organizer (also looking for Court Advocates to represent the community):

    Hi,
    > >
    > > Last night I was out before the Neighborhood Watch started prior to 8 PM. At that time, I heard 3 or 4 loud bangs coming from behind the Sheridan Grande. Shortly after this three males on bikes raced out from the Sheridan Grande parking lot, crossed Sheridan and headed East down Castlewood. Following behind them was Police Tactical unit car that crossed Sheridan, came up on the sidewalk, then turned right, and headed east on the sidewalk to get to Castlewood. A great job of driving by the officers in squeezing by the sidewalk post.

    > > The officer caught the offenders with the gun at 835 W Castlewood. The Police found he had a silver 9 MM automatic pistol in his belt. Later on another offender was caught in Margate Park. The third offender got away.

    > > Both of the offenders that were caught are Latin Kings. The victim was a 35 year one male walking down Ainslie. The tactical unit was patrolling this area since it is listed a hot spot. They heard the shot and saw the muzzle flash from gun. The shooting occurred behind the Sheridan Grande (4848 N Sheridan) in the alley. The Tactical unit immediately went after the offenders and called in for more police units into the area. No one was hit by any of the shots. Right after the shooting we saw a lot police units patrolling the local streets looking for the third offender.

  3. Alek, this type of police work as good as it was, is routine across the city and is done everyday. It's never reported on though. All we hear are the Tony Abatte or john Finnegan stories. But I do know what you are saying anf I thank you for it.

  4. Great Coppers in the windy city. Big Daddy is right, they catch these types of offenders every day.

  5. I am curious to know the home addresses of both Christen Aguirre and Alberto Antunez. Are they residents of Uptown or some other neighborhood? Is there a way to find out this information?

  6. @ Big Daddy, I'm sure it is and wish we did hear more about it.

  7. Alek, I'm not sure what more information you need.

    It was gang-related.
The two were arrested within minutes of the shooting.
Court advocates will be following the cases.

It's frustrating that the addresses of the arrested can't be released, but laws about that have to be followed.
