Incoming!

A reader just sent us these photos of one the President's Blackhawk choppers arriving over the Lawrence Avenue/LSD bridge around 6:30 tonight.  There were three of them (the better to fool you with, m'dear), and they appear to be parked between Lawrence and Wilson east of the Drive, and very heavily guarded and inaccessible.

  1. Blackhawk choppers are not used by the President. The second pic is a Chinook (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_CH-47_Chinook). The first is the President's chopper...either the large VH-3D Sea King or the newer, smaller VH-60N "WhiteHawk".

  3. Respectful Correction, the second photo is of a Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight. Marine One Travels with two of those and one US Army CH-47 Chinook. Tha Marine corps birds are with VMX-1. The Chinook is for the VIPs and the CH-46s are for security. -1stSgt W.W. Wade, USMC

  4. @Picard, I'm guessing they were actually flying pretty low. Can anyone confirm or deny? I don't live in Uptown anymore, but still follow the blog. All the news stations were reporting that Marine One would land at an undisclosed location, but anyone who knows the area knows precisely where it landed.

  6. They landed on the baseball fields just east of LSD and south of Lawrence. Police has the bike/jogging paths and lakefront closed while they were there. It was a very cool sight!
