Garbage Truck Hits Woman on Broadway

Several readers wrote to us about a pedestrian accient near Target on Broadway. The Chicago Tribune is reporting:

A woman was hospitalized in serious-to-critical condition this morning after she was hit by a garbage truck in the Uptown neighborhood, officials said.

The accident happened at about 9:42 a.m. on the 4400 block of North Broadway when a private garbage truck struck the female pedestrian, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital by Chicago Fire Department paramedics, but was alert and talking, Mirabelli said. No one else was injured.

Our prayers go to the injured woman and hope that she makes a full recovery.

  1. I seen the aftermath. I'm glad the rain washed it away. Actually it happened on sunnyside, rite off the alley. I can't imagine how this truck missed the women. I'm going to assume he came barreling through the alley, didn't blow his horn or stop. Until it was too late. Very sad.

  2. I walked nearby around this time. The truck was heading east just entering Sunnyside. There was blood on the ground right there this afternoon. Sadly, it looks like he was probably going left and she ran across before the walk sign was off.

  3. I saw the victim laying on the ground as I was headed to Target. It was right near the crosswalk on Sunnyside so he must have been taking a Left onto Sunnyside as Uptown Meg said. It didn't happen at the Alley, because the truck was still half on Broadway, half on Sunnyside. The lady was East of the truck.

Feel bad for both of them. Nobody wants to hit somebody, and nobody wants to get hit. Accidents suck.

Good luck for both of them.

P.S. The garbage truck pictured is not the one that hit her. The picture is blue, the truck was Green if I recall.
