A Conversation With Ric Addy & Free Tour Of Uptown

Chicago's Office of Tourism and Culture presents a weekly "Get Up and Go! Conversation Series" featuring a speaker and tour of each of Chicago's neighborhoods. Up tomorrow -- Uptown! Ric Addy, long-time owner of Shake Rattle & Read and raconteur, will represent us.

So here's the deal: Ric will appear at the Cultural Center downtown (Michigan and Randolph), speak from approximately 12:10 to 12:45, then free CTA passes will be given out to those interested, and the group will make its way up to Lawrence for an hour-long walking tour (probably the entertainment district at Lawrence & Broadway, Essanay Studios and Argyle Street). Not only do you get to hear Ric (always a treat from a long-time business owner and observer), but it's all free.  For those of you who work in the Loop, bring your lunch and enjoy hearing from an Uptown legend.

"Hosted by Mark Bazer, Redeye columnist, humorist and host of The Interview Show at The Hideout, the Series will highlight the arts, history and cultural riches of a different neighborhood each week by engaging a neighborhood expert in an interview-style conversation. Following the 45-minute conversation, the audience is invited to attend a free walking-tour of the neighborhood. Tours will last approximately one-hour, not including transit time, and will depart from and return to the Chicago Cultural Center via the CTA. CTA passes will be provided to visitors taking the tour."

  1. Dang, from the title I thought it was a tour of the Uptown Theatre. Hell, I'd pay $20 to go see that!
