CTA & Jones Lang LaSalle: Don't Forget About This Storefront!

With work already starting, or slated to start, on the two CTA owned storefronts under the tracks on Wilson, we wondered what would come of the "Majestic" CTA storefront at Broadway and Leland. The space has been abandoned for close to 2 years now and has never looked worse. We hope that Jones Lang LaSalle can at least spruce up its street presence. Removing the dilapidated signage (that will probably collapse to the sidewalk anyway) would go a long way. Peeking under the sign revealed to us that the terracotta is actually in great shape, thanks to being protected all these years by the sign. Are there no plans to remodel this storefront that could be bringing in revenue for the CTA? It really is an eyesore next to the restored Uptown Broadway Building.

UU Note: You can report this dilapidated sign as a "maintenance concern" to Jones Lang LaSalle at 1-888-557-5618. The address is 4701 N. Broadway.

  1. Speaking of which, I loved reading about what the Magestic Store was back in the day... http://uptownhistory.compassrose.org/

Hopefully something wonderful goes in this unique spot :)

  2. I hope someone in Uptown is documenting these facades. And I hope they share their work with the community.

  3. Thad Wong (co-owner of @properties) bought the building adjacent and renovated it. He tried to get the owner of Magestic Men's Store to sell to him so he could renovate that space as well but the owner refused. Now look at the situation the owner and the building are in. Guess he should have taken Thad's offer!

  4. Hopeless - the owner is the CTA. I don't think they would part with a property that is directly under the tracks as they have the right away as far as the land is concerned.

This is just an example of the the CTA being sloppy and not keeping up their properties in Uptown.
