New Drive-Thru At J.J. Peppers?

It looks like someone thought that the J.J. Peppers convenience store at the corner of Lawrence and Sheridan has a drive-thru around 5 p.m. today. A beige BMW drove over the curb and through the front doors of the store. No word if any one was injured. Please add to the comments if you have any additional information or know what may have caused this accident.

Update: There must be something about this stripmall and the urge it gives people to drive through its businesses. Remember when this same thing happened a couple doors down at Cricket?

  1. I HATE that store. Several dozen times a week, some person gets the brilliant idea to stand on the sidewalk next to this place and aggressively pounce on any passersby. "Come on Pleeeeeeeeease give me some change", or there's a bloated, sunburnt couple swilling warm beer from a freshly purchased case. It's like nobody cared what happened around there.

  2. Time to install barricades, such as stout bicycle racks, along the length of the walk in front of the stores.

Time also to issue a polite warning to JJ Peppers that it is becoming an nuisance, and that neighbors will pressure the authorities to shut it down if the loitering and harassment of customers in front of the store continues.

  3. The store is really not that bad. It's generally pretty clean and the people who work in there are friendly. I've never had any issues with the loiterers either. Not yet anyway.

  4. C.P.,
JJ Peppers has no windows facing south and cannot see loiterers there. I think they are more concerned with the people in the store than on public property/the bus stop outside. Just say no to the loiterer and keep it movin'!

    NorthCoast,
I don't think bike racks will fit there, they'd be blocking either parking or the sidewalk entrance unless they were those U'shaped ones where you can lock up sideways.

  5. The loiterers on Lawrence and Sheridan are awful. They often run into JJ Peppers or S&L when the police come by.

  6. the people who work at JJ Peppers are so friendly and welcoming. Put yourselves in their shoes. work a register, watch for people trying to steal, and constantly try to run away thugs hanging out front. I'm sure they want the thugs gone bc it's not good for business. It takes a community to make it happen. Starting with supporting neighboorhood businesses to help get more retail in this neighborhood that will drive more positive foot traffic. call the cops if u are aggressively panhandled with a good description. we all have to do our part to clean up Uptown.

  7. Tanya, I agree the folks that work at JJPeppers are always friendly and very nice.. HOWEVER, the owners there could chose not to sell mini-bottles of liquor.. which are obviously most often going to the indigent and alcoholic... and I know because I find those bottles littering the streets surrounding JJPeppers... I wonder what it would take to vote that precinct dry?
