Lights Out On Broadway

"I've been keeping an eye on the new street lighting near my Leland/Broadway area apartment and they do make a big difference. I have been wondering why one of the new light poles just outside Uptown Bikes at 4653 N. Broadway looks like both light globes have been shot out and it is leaning to the east. I suppose it is possible it was damaged during installation but it has been like this for a while now. The one light bulb does come on at night but is exposed to the elements. Hopefully the city is planning to come back and straighten the pole out and add the light globes back. I also counted at least FIFTEEN burnt out lights under the L tracks here. I plan to call the CTA to let them know but I hope your readers will do the same."

  1. Well im sure these lights impede local drug sales/loitering,
probably some of the local element had something to do with this.

  2. I appreciate the awareness of the burnt out lights under the L tracks and emailed the CTA. I know some of the darkness is likely intentionally done, but it's worth seeing if the CTA could help out with the lights below the tracks.

  3. I have been watching that light post at Leland and Broadway for some time now...

It has never worked right since they put it up. I am not sure if this is intentional or not.

If it has been vandalized, allowing it to be continually sabotaged is not acceptable. We have to keep spending (wasting) the money to fix it, but also deploy more resources and hold who ever is doing that accountable. Hell, send em jail...

Further, if the lights are being deactivated to promote the drug trade, we need to get to the root of the problem.

Here is a suggestion...Install the brightest, most annoying spot light we can find up on the CTA Tracks and point it down on that corner. Light it up like daylight...

FYI - I just shot the CTA an e-mail as well.
