Here is another amazing photo from eBay seller EDM Photos showing Sunnyside and Broadway in August 1959 during the "Uptown Folk Fest". Only one building in this photo remains, on the left, the former Salvation Army building that is now vacant on the SE corner of Broadway and Sunnyside. Looking west towards Broadway we can see the old Wilson Yard shops that were destroyed in 1996. The white colored two-story building in front of it is the old Terminal Garage which stands just about where the entrance to Target is today. Buy the high-def version here.
There are a couple other photos from the fest here and here.
Wow - very cool!
ReplyDeleteActually, if you look closely at the 2 paintings on the ground facing the cameraman (by the lady sitting down) you will see that one is a view looking south on Broadway by the Post Office (you can see the eagle outside the P.O. steps and the Uptown Bank Building further down). I believe the other painting to the right is a view of the Edgewater Beach Hotel.
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome to find those actual paintings... I know, good luck.
What a great piece of history.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine having such a 'carefree' relaxed moment such as this at that intersection now?
I can't. But here's hoping!
