Sales To Start Saturday At Closing Borders Bookstores

It makes us so sad to post this from Crains:

"Sales are to begin Saturday at the 200 Borders bookstores that the chain is closing, including 15 in the Chicago area. Customers can get discounts of up to 40% at the closing stores, according to a release from Michigan-based Borders Group Inc., which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week. CDs, DVDs and other items will have substantial price reductions, the company said."  Read the rest of the article here.

  3. I'm very sad this beautiful store didn't work, even though we can see it was a mistake from the outset. It was an attractive, restful break from the rest of the nabe, and a great place to browse- but browsers don't pay the bills.

The neighborhood invested a lot of tax money in this store via the Broadway/Lawrence TIF.

  7. I don't intend to sound facetious with this. Where will the homeless people go during the day when Borders closes?
