Found Dog On Magnolia

Update: The dog and owners have been reunited. Good news!  Thank you to those who cared about the little guy and to everyone who helped him get back home.

A reader writes:  "We just found this dog in the 4600 Block of North Magnolia. He looks like he's well cared for, fixed ... and not overly hungry. He looks like a boxer mix.  If no one claims it this afternoon we will take to Anti Cruelty Society."
If you know who this dog belongs to, please contact uptownupdate@hotmail.com with your contact information and we will put you in touch with the reader who found the dog.  Please see our Facebook page for another photo.

  1. he looks like a pit bull mix and will likely be in danger of being put down if relinquished. has anyone taken him to a vet's office to see if he is microchipped?

  2. Please take it to PAWS. They are a no kill shelter. Anti-Cruelty is not.

  3. Having found a few stray animals in our neighborhood in the past year, I can tell you that both PAWS and Anti-Cruelty are required to take a found pet to Chicago Animal Control, where they are supposed to be held for a certain amount of time in the "lost pet" area. I can't remember how many days, though I believe it's at least 5. Also, Anti-Cruelty will scan for a microchip when you bring the dog in, so no worries about that.

  4. Anti-Cruelty doesn't accept strays, only Animal Care and Control (ACC) does. Maisie's Mom is right; almost no chance at ACC. Heidi, PAWS does have a kill shelter - it's over in Pilsen. They do a really good PR job of making sure nobody knows about it, however.

  5. pmathewr, i've never heard of this PAWS "kill shelter" in pilsen. could you please present some sort of proof? or is it just conjecture?

  6. PAWS does NOT have a kill shelter in Pilsen. Please check your facts before posting something like that. The law requires a shelter to reach certain standards to be able to claim they are "no-kill" and PAWS meets and exceeds the state requirements. No animal is put-down unless they either are too sick to save or are vicious (i.e. a threat to the general public). Also, for future reference, if you notify PAWS that you are dropping an adoptable dog off at ACC, they will make arrangements to pick the animal up in a future transfer.
