Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

A reader sends in the following pic and info:
"I noticed people in the UU comments mentioning the young gentleman with the red ball cap who flashes wads of money after "allegedly" finishing drug deals. I have seen him quite often near Wilson & Malden and Wilson & Magnolia. The loitering in the Wilson Magnolia strip mall has returned. From 4pm till after 5pm, the boys were back and they were hard at work on their cellphones with their lookouts on the sidewalk in front of Subway. There was NO security in the mall when this was going down. Something isn't working. If there had been security there during the day, the boys return as soon as they leave. I know the owner of the mall is trying to work with the community but it looks like full-time security is needed here as well as MUCH better lighting."

  1. its starting to get like the old broken heart of rogers park with the drugdealing photos,

we have alot of redcaps up here in RP too

drugdealing is still rampant in my neck of the woods but not as crazy as it used to be or how it is in uptown

  2. I highly recommend coming out to the CAPS meeting this Tuesday (10/5) at 7 PM at Truman and let the police know what you saw. They've been very forthcoming with information about what the new owner is trying to do.

It's important for all of us to keep the pressure on, and this is the best forum to do it in the short-term.

  3. The security had better be armed or its not going to work out very well. The red hats would think nothing of firing a few rounds over the heads of the guards. Any threat to the right to peddle dope in that area will obviously be met with resistance. The P Stones and VLs did not shoot all summer for nothing. How about printing that pic of Mr. Redhat, print "known drug dealer" on it in bold type, and scattering copys all over the area ?

  4. I call 911 around 5 times per week on this guy! I see him dealing drugs just about everyday on the corner of Malden and Wilson. He waits in front of Godfather's pizza, meets the buyer, and then they walk South on Malden to make the exchange.

  5. They all dress the same to make it hard for the cops to ID them when everyone dresses the same with the red hats. The cops can do little to this scum as they drive by. This is where they need to place a few undercover cops and nab him and the customer when the deal is made. I cannot understand how much more proof is needed to get the cops to take action on this scum.

  6. I like the idea of posting pictures of drug dealers on the web. However i doubt that this is going to stop someone from selling. Pictures of people buying drugs however is the key. You want to stop people from coming here to buy drugs? Post pictures of them or car plates on the web and you will see how fast they stay away from the hood.It has worked with prostitution in a lot of neighborhoods and will work with drug sales.

  7. I saw this guy eat a LIT blunt when he saw a cop! He musta been HIGH as hell! (FYI: a blunt is one of those small cigars where they take out the tobacco and put in weed. Don't ask me how I know that....)

  9. PLEASE call them "crimson cappers," etc. DO NOT use words that also describe my dear friends, the RED HATTERS, who are very lovely law-abiding ladies who contribute greatly to the local economy (esp. The Clark Street boutiques).

  10. Come election day remember that is is Anita Alvarez, Daley and their slated judges and other machine minions who are responsible for thugs like these using our criminal justice system like a revolving door. Currently even if arrested he wouldn't be gone for long.

  11. Please. Everyone knows what a blunt is.

  12. Amouse, come election day, remember to take responsibility for YOUR decisions--because it's people like you who complain about petty or victimless crimes and insist on locking those criminals up...then you moan and groan because your taxes have to pay $25,000+ per year to keep one person incarcerated...not to mention that you prefer to elect people who are happy to allow your corporate friends to move decent-paying jobs overseas AND give the fatcats tax breaks to do it--meaning that Uptown residents who COULD be making an honest living working at real decent-paying jobs resort to making easy money by preying on the weak and defenseless, costing us all even MORE. So I hold you responsible for the broken-down judicial and penal system...what are YOU doing to fix it?!?

  13. Uh Bear, Drugdealing gangbanging tends towards being very violent. As far as cost of prisoners. We could learn a few lessons from Sheriff Joe of Maricopa county. Most citizens I wager don't care if violent offenders are locked up like sardines, with no cable T.V. weight rooms, etc... Oh and by the way I am for keeping decent jobs within this country and against corporate welfare. What lead you to believe I was not. But regardless, that is still just an excuse for those who choose to be a pariah upon society. I grew up rather disadvantaged. My grandparents survived the depression, none of us used these circumstances to play out "lord of the flies" on the streets.

  14. Anoun - how does your Gparents surviving the depression translate into a difficult child hood for you?

  15. Uptown Dweller, they don't equate. They are just a tongue in cheek example of people I know who faced poverty and adversity and didn't use that as an excuse for criminal activity

  16. Is it possible that this site is just ill-suited for a drive-up strip mall to begin with.
All of the businesses could exist without parking with the notable exception on the chiropractor.
I agree with the moderator at last nights CAP meeting that the property needs an anchor tenant.
Preferably one that enhances the experience of living here, we need a place to love in there.
Perhaps a scaling back on the parking lot to allow the vacant anchor unit to have outdoor seating will make the mall more inviting to a prospective resturantuer. Three Harmony could have outdoor seating as well< no city tax since it would be on private property.
In the summer when trouble seems to peek over could be mitigated by having plenty of patrons/neighbors about.
The obvious backside to this is less parking.
However, I am a firm believer that what works for a commercial property off of Dempster Ave in Skokie might not be the best retail configuration for us...here...in Uptown. Pedestrian friendly is in my humble opinion just that...friendly. Cheers Jeffrey Littleton
