Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

You might have heard on the news about the Edgewater driver who led the police on a merry chase Wednesday night through the Northwest Side, evading roadblocks, driving towards officers, and being fired on ... twice.  Keen-eyed readers let us know that it all started in Uptown.

"The chase began about 8:45 p.m. as Gonzales drove with a female passenger at Sunnyside and Broadway, court records show. He was seen running a red light by an officer on bike patrol, who attempted to curb the vehicle, which instead sped off."

Hey, don't mess with our bike officers!  We like them.  Read the whole story here.

  1. No prior criminal record?

    Amazing.

This guy really needs to stay away from alcohol.

Assuming he goes to prison I suggest the Twelve Step House over at Damen and Sunnyside after his release. I used to shag my dad outta there in the 70's and 80's until Jesus decided he needed another angel and pops went to the great sobriety meeting in the sky. Or more likely somewhere warmer.

Some people give drinking a bad name.

  2. And for his efforts he appears to have received only a minor tune-up.

  4. Though I'm not familiar with this particular case, everyone should be aware that this chase ended with a traffic crash into a light pole.

Over the years, I've seen faces looking a lot worse than this one after bouncing off a steering wheel or through a windshield after a wreck. I'll leave out the bloody details. Point being, however, that the attempt at humor with the "minor tune-up" comment often couldn't be further from the truth.

    Hey, I'm just sayin.
