Warm Weather, Hot Tempers?

A reader reports that there were just five gunshots on Magnolia Malden, south of Wilson.  Anyone else?

A reader sent in this photo and says:  "Tough to make out,
but this is 4 suspects on the hood of a car.
The police blocked off portions of Montrose almost as if
they were ready for this. Kudos to the PD."

  2. Yes, I think there were indeed shots. I heard them from my place on Malden near Sunnyside, but could not really tell where they were coming from. But they were somewhat muffled, so coming from the back side of things (Magnolia) sounds about right. I would say 5-7 shots.

  3. Heard the shots - I'm at Malden and Sunnyside.
Heard shots, called cops, turned tv back on.
    Wash, rinse, repeat.

  4. Not Magnolia it was Malden. I have just left a VM at the aldermen Schillers office and have vowed to call every day until something is done about this. I urge others to join me in doing the same until they can't ignore us

  5. The police have portions of Montrose blocked off with suspects on the hood of a car. Fast work by the CPD.

  6. FYI: Did is correct the shots were on Malden. AGoodone was correct as well they were muffled, so the location even threw me off at first. Suspects walked then gingerly towards 4425 N Malden.

Just another day in Da Hood.

  7. I think the police were following them if its the same four idiots that I made a detour to pass as they turned on malden and wilson and there group broke up because it started of with about 7 of them and some of them decided to stay behind in front of god fathers. Then when I made it home they were lingering around the corner of malden and sunnyside .... Such a waste of a good park :( sniff sniff and Chip this isnt the hood by far I have seen a lot worse I moved up this way because it was less violent.

  9. There were about 6 cars at Malden/Sunnyside a few minutes ago. Now there are 3 cars and a bunch of officers looking at something they found on the ground near the benches. A bullet casing perhaps?

Within 1 hour prior to the shots being fired I called 911 twice to report a group of bangers. Four of them were huddled on Malden just south of Sunnyside just after 6p. A larger guy came from 4425 Malden to meet them. Something makes me think that these guys were part of the festivities.

If you see any gang members lingering and meeting, CALL 911. Sunnyside/Malden is a gang hot spot.

  10. Of course the big, fat elephant in the room per usual, is the lack of comment from the Ward office as these predictable happenings play out.

I hope the sub zero temperatures in the winter help somewhat. Sad, and infuriating.

  11. Is 10:15 & there is 3 undercover cars outside my window. Have been here for about 30 min. with 3 young Af Am males on the hood. The cops are looking through the planters for something.

  12. At 7 pm, 3 squad cars had five gang guys - in standard uniform - lined up against one of the cars at the corner of Malden & Montrose. A 4th squad car joined them and they were there for some time. Since, about 9 pm, we now have 2 squad cars outside the public housing at 4425 Malden. Can only assume this was tied to whatever gun shots were heard earlier. On good news front, there seem to be 2 security guards posted this evening at the 4425 housing unit -- not sure if that's a permanent move to manage the gang activity around there, but it would be a welcome effort.

  13. I can't recall if the topic has been discussed. Is the increase in crime in Uptown in the last year related to the destruction of Cabrini-Green and other public housing developments?

  14. This might sound far out there but just a idea. They should have a copter with spot light roaming around uptown for a few nites-give these shooters something to think about--sure the good folks would understand. It is warm weather now but when it gets cold ,what are the gangers going to do.Start going in the buildings for shooting?

  15. And I was just bragging about the lack of shootings on Malden…

  16. Guys if you keep up this kindof pressure and vigilance something will have to give.

And it will be the gangs.

I think I may have mentioned it before, but the GDs in Rogers Park were all over Farwell early in the summer and me and other neighbors gave the gangs no peace. Its a different situation, because they dont have as much places around to stay.
But the gang presence is just about nil now.

But keep up the good work.
I think with this kindof coordination and vigilance and calling 911 early, the gangs days are numbered in this area. They will just find it too much of a pain. These guys arent that dedicated, they will move through the path of least resistance, which is out.

  17. The lion's share of shootings and gunfire are happening in the Graceland Wilson Neighbors block club area.

We're having a block club meeting this Monday night to make our neighborhood a safe place to live.

Magnolia street, the Sunnyside Mall, the Broncho Billy Playlot are THE HOT SPOTS FOR THE GANGS AND THEIR OUT OF CONTROL BEHAVIOR.

Come to the meeting this Monday. It's at Truman College, 7PM in the cafeteria. This is action packed meeting.

  18. This is interesting because I have noticed a decrease of litter on Magnolia and also a less frequent gang presence both at the mall and in front of the convenience store on Wilson. I've also seen fewer problems over by Wilson/Broadway and the Wilson Men's Hotel.

  19. I am sure Will they are just moving somewhere else-the only way to get rid of gangs is to lock them up or reform. They do not want reform. A 53 year old man was shot on southside and this happened right under a police security camera.
