Harbor Construction Area

"Anyone know what they are building in the big old parking lot across from Montrose Harbor? It's going to have an 8-9 foot fence all around it - whatever it is."

  1. I was told by the folks in the Montrose bait house it will be upgraded for more pay parking. Also they will be putting up hundreds of pay stations all along the areas of the park you can now park for free. Looks like the free days of parking anywhere on the lake front is gone forever. I would not be shocked if the Cook County Forest Preserves start going pay to park also.

  2. They're simply re-constructing the parking lot.

  3. PRIORITY for the new Chicago mayor - find a way to cancel that @#$%^&(*) parking meter contract, start from scratch while giving us an extended "parking holiday" while the new details are worked out, and take the meters out of the park/beach areas. Keep the "real" parking lots where needed (Lincoln Park, for example) and do your part to lower unemployment by hiring human attendants & clerks.

The lakefront is generally accessible by public transportation. The lakefront would be much nicer if more people took the bus to it.

I realize that some people who live on the lakefront park there and walk home. Sorry. The parking lots for the beaches are not there for this kind of parking.

All in all, I think the next mayor should have higher priorities.
