Shots Fired At Sunnyside And Hazel

Man, we should just make a macro.  Several reports from neighbors:

"A neighbor reported shots (# unknown) around Sunnyside and Hazel at about 10 p.m Monday night. There are about 3-4 police cars and 3-4 guys with their hands on the hood of one of the cars."  Another report says six shots in a row, then a single shot a minute later.

Reminder:  Beat 2313's CAPS meeting is Wednesday, August 11, at 7pm, Clarendon Park Field House.

  1. I heard a series of shots around 10PM or so echo into my high floor condo at Montrose and Clarendon. This years gun activity has increased and they seem to be heard always late nights somewhere toward the Sunnyside and Hazel direction. I also noticed more unmarked car activity parked around the Clarendon field house lately after 12 midnight.

  4. I also heard this at 10pm about 6 shots. Live on Windosr between Hazel and Clarendon. CPD came to park about 5 min later. Also saw a teen jump a fence from S-side of Windsor run up the driveway and bolt West down Windsor right after the shots.

  6. @Mike,

This corner has been a hot spot for a while. I've been here since '04 and there's always been activity there.

I don't know how long you've been here, but I think it was September of 2007 when 2 murders occurred within about a week of each other at Windsor and Hazel. Basically, something happens at Broadway and Wilson and the payback happens at Hazel and Sunnyside. It's Conservative Vice Lord territiory.

  7. I called this one before it happened. Told my neighbor on Agatite that there were alot of guys milling around the corner of Sunnyside/Hazel, looking like they were waiting for something to go down. Walked my dog inside and shooting happened just minutes later.

  9. I think it's time that Daley stepped in and made gangs illegal in Chicago.

  10. Mike, I have lived on Windsor and Hazel for a long time, and there has always been a lot of gang activity here. There are a lot of vice lords living in the building on Hazel and Windsor and Hazel and Sunnyside. Pablo is right, it's never been "quiet" but the gun violence is increasing, that is for sure, and that is scary.

  11. neil - how would you define a "gang." All the things they do that you don't like is already illegal. Everything else is social networking :-)
