"Hey there, I had an encounter this morning with a confrontational dog walker that may be of interest to your readers. I was at Agatite and Hazel walking my dog (I live on Agatite) when I came across another man walking his dog. He was white, mid to late 20s with a dark complexion and short dark hair, probably 5'9 or 5'10. His dog was a large, white long haired dog, at least 75 pounds. (see attached photo)
As we were coming near he commanded his dog to lie down and then as we got closer he told his dog to "get em". His dog leaped ahead (on its leash) and started sniffing my dog. All this was ok, but his dog started jumping and getting aggressive at which point my dog barked and tried to get away. This is where things get strange.
I told him to "Get your dog off my dog!" at which point he immediately launched into a tirade, calling me "faggot" more than a dozen times and telling me to "move back to Boys Town." It was so aggressive, immediate, and borderline cartoonish that I was pretty much speechless. He walked south on Hazel past Montrose at which point I lost sight of him. I've lived in Uptown for five years (with my wife and dog) and haven't had this kind of encounter."
Here is part two of the saga:
"I had another incident with this guy yesterday morning about 10am. He had his dog off-leash (again) in the baseball field area between Clarendon/Marine and Montrose/Lawrence and instructed his dog to run after me and my dog. As soon as I tried to get the dogs apart he ran over and tried to pick a fight.
It was largely the same as before, but this time he threatened to stab me with a knife right away, claimed he was an off-duty firefighter and that he'd been in the neighborhood for three years. When I told him I was going to call the cops for threatening me, he said that it wouldn't matter because they'd believe him over me, because he was a firefighter.
I called 911 and he took off west on Montrose. The officers I talked to filed an official complaint for me, expressed doubt that he was actually a off-duty firefighter and provided me a number at Violent Crimes if I had any extra info. I'm hoping your readers can both keep away from this guy who seems intent on fighting somebody and provide more info so the cops can have a word with him."
You can't script this stuff
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like this guy is a few years away from walking down the street and pulling out flower beds. This man clearly has a chemical imbalance. I hope that neither he nor his dog hurt anyone.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really scary. Please carry mase and keep calling 911. You did the right thing. There are a lot of off people in this world. Please be sure to travel with your dog in parks during daytime hours when there are plenty of people nearby.
ReplyDeleteLove that you were able to get a photo of this guy. Very sorry that his behavior has now twice effected you personally. Those of us with dogs will be on the lookout thanks for sending UU the info. If he gives anyone similar trouble please remember to call 911 and refer to the prior complaints made against him. This guy has no idea what kind of trouble he is going to get into should he continue this behavior now that UU has spread the word.
ReplyDeleteIs the picture of the attacker?
ReplyDeleteI'm highly upset by what I have read in this post for two reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst off I'm a CFD member.
Secondly I am a responsible Pit Bull and Bully breed dog owner, and advocate.
I have a little girl rescued from a fighting kennel and a very BIG gentle Boy. Both are great at the dog park and wonderful with all dogs EXCEPT when strongly provoked by another powerful dog (neither will blink if a smaller dog attacks them).
This is exactly the situation I am deathly afraid of as a responsible owner. I know my girls limits and respect them, I have no doubt if some Dumb Ass verbally provoked their dog on her chaos would ensue and my dogs would be held accountable for someone elses stupidity. For the record I have NEVER seen this guy and do not believe he is a fellow CFD member. I work with many many people, 90% are salt of the world guys and squared away, 10% are solid in character with a screw or two lose (misunderstood not harmful). We are held to a high standard in our code of conduct and we all love our jobs. Even if we are not all saints their is no one I know with anytime on the job that would ever risk what we have with such weak behavior.
I have both CPD/Humane Society
800-535-7867
and
Cook County Dogfighting Task Force
847-635-1188
numbers on speed dial on my cell and have used both during my time on. At the least call 911, this guy doesn't deserve a dog, Period.
Which is worse in our Uptown gangs or mental cases. I surely hope someone stops him and his dog before someone gets hurt. I got something for his dog if he lets him loose on me and I hope it never comes to this as it is the owners fault not the dog who is so stupit.
ReplyDeletewiseguy -- i think its seriously 6 of one, half dozen of another.
ReplyDeletei cant tell you how many weirdos walk down Lawrence Ave.
yesterday i got yelled at by some older African American male who was walking westbound down Lawrence with both his feet turned completely outwards. he told me "little b*tch better watch your back." about twenty times. i had to cross over to the other side of the street so he'd stop heckling me!
Is there any relation to this and the dog attack on the beach last month?
ReplyDeleteseems unrelated.

The other owner was ~40, and the dog was a husky/malamute/sleddog type breed.
This is why I stay prepared and armed with mace and various legal weapons, when walking along the lakefront. That guy better hope he runs into the cops, before he runs into me. :-)
ReplyDeletePS
I detest people who let their dogs off their leash. If you aren't in a doggie park, your mutt belongs on a lead.
Thank you for posting this. How horrifying!

ReplyDeleteRandom but crazy turned out foot guy likes to hang out where we live. One night, we were coming back home late and my boyfriend got called a "white trash crack whore". Funny thing is - He's asian!
By any chance did this guy have arm tattoos?
