A frustrated Magnolia-Malden neighbor writes in regarding 4656 N. Malden:
"I wanted to point out something that has really been frustrating me. On March 4, you guys posted an article about the building on the southwest corner of Malden and Leland that was crumbling large pieces of concrete on the sidewalk.
Shortly after the article was posted, the building put a scaffold over that portion of the sidewalk. I walk this way every day to get to work, and they still haven’t done anything to fix it. Every few weeks, they’ll post a new sign on the scaffold saying that the construction period has been extended, but it’s now been almost 5 months since this has been brought to their attention, and the scaffold is still sitting there which I assume means nothing has been done. Maybe you could post an article to light a fire underneath whoever is responsible for getting this fixed.

I don't know if laziness is the reason..i'm thinkin no...but for the safety of the women,and children in this building i too hope it gets fixed.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason this building isn't the block's eyesore is because of the miserably maintained Section 8 building immediately to the south and the sad hole which once was the stately Queen Anne on Beacon. My understanding is that the organization that runs this building is more than adequately financed, so money is not the problem. However, they certainly have not invested in maintenance & upkeep. This building also frequently has tons of litter on its parkway. Most recently, there was tons of junk food wrappers and cans all over for days, and not one of the tenants took 5 minutes from their busy, subsidized schedules to clean it up. What a bunch of lazy pigs.

ReplyDeleteMaybe its a case of "the cobbler's children have no shoes?" Probably not. I'm thinking it's more about not caring and being irresponsible neighbors.
If this were a condo building, it would be in housing court by now.

You are sadly mistaken, but you can donate through the cco website at http://www.ccolife.org/blog/ Also, if you want to inform the organization of your concerns about the upkeep of their buildings emailing them directly would get better results.

ReplyDeleteLakefront (http://lakefrontsupply.com/) is a roofing supply company that sells products relating to the roofing industry, but they do not work as a contractor. They can however refer you to a contractor if you need, as they may have done for their neighbor on Eastwood a few weeks back. Your link was to a history of JPUSA, and it is correct that in the past JPUSA started businesses that did contracting work in areas such as electrical, roofing, porches, printing.
Rick Ross is not a credible source for any info.
I hope that Uptown Update can now get back to being a positive force in the community and re-direct emails it receives to places that will actually matter. Do the responsible thing and deal with the party you are concerned about directly, and maybe you will start to build relationships with your neighbors instead of fearing them.
