"Crime Is Not My Issue" (But Movies Are)

There was a well-publicized home invasion in the 44th Ward this week, in which an elderly man was beaten by an intruder. The alderman in whose ward it occurred, Tom Tunney, sent out an email blast to the community the day after the crime. Here it is:

This week there was a brutal gang murder in the 46th Ward. This is what residents living there received in an email blast from Ald. Shiller the day after it occurred:

  1. I'll have to open my secondary email and check for that.

I always love communication from my beloved aldercritter Helen Shiller.

  2. Wait so crime is not the alderman issue but keeping guns out of law abiding citizens homes is there issue. (which all alderman voted for) A gun that could have protected this person against this home invasion? Makes perfect sense.

  3. (which all alderman voted for)

    Not all. 5 didn't vote.

And, for some odd reason, no one seems to want to divulge who those 5 were.

  4. Lets hear it for Chicago City Council transparency!

  5. I think we should all reply to this e-mail.

Can we get her out of the position in any way right now? If so, how? I'm willing to walk the street for signatures and educate the public about Shiller and what she's NOT doing.

How about we all grab some popcorn and sit at the front and back door of her office? It will be the most horrifying thing any of us will ever watch.

    Dear Alderman Shiller,
Thank you!! Your movies will be the perfect venue for us to educate the masses about how irresponsible you are.

Did that mole her eye grow over your eyes and ears? What is wrong with you???????

  6. Where do I sign, I would gladly help in doing what needs to be done to remove her from office. Mr. Daley needs to hear from us as he is supporting her. If the Mayor knows he is in jepordy of losing hundreds/thousands of votes he may listen up.

  7. Thank you for posting this since that was my first thought when I read her e-mail. Denial is a hell of a drug

  8. Now I'm kicking myself for NOT sending that e-mail yesterday. My thoughts are perfectly reflected here.

  9. @themooseisloose: I would love to join you at the Shiller office sit-in, but I would rather not put my self in jeopardy of bodily harm via flying bullets (AKA fisticuffs).

  10. 30x. That's the problem. People love to bitch and complain, but when it comes down to doing something, they run away.

I would like to organize people to hand out flyers at the free movie event telling them what's really going on.

Can anyone here tell me if there are legal ramifications for handing out flyers at free movie night?

Also, can anyone tell me what is needed for a peaceful protest outside of shellers office? How does this work?

Positive loitering is great, but something else reds to be put in to the mix here.

    What does everyone think.

  11. There is no way she is running. Everyday it becomes more evident (gay pride parade no-show). She knows she is toxic and there is no doubt that the machine knows she is done. Notwony may be the machine pick, but not a chance Molly is. In the end, I don't know that it will matter though.

Thanks for your 20 years of.... not really sure we can call it "public service". Would have much rather seen her voted out, but either way she disappears and Uptown can turn her self serving ways around.

  12. Sounds good and I am all for a big rally at the front and back of Shillers office. I am sick of her BS attitude she has for us residents that have to live in unhealthy and unsafe conditions of our ward that she could care less about. Maybe the news stations could also show up and let everyone see more about this useless Alderman and how little she really does. Let us know when and where.

  13. Now wait a minute....let's be fair.
There is useful information now and again on the 46th site.

I remember seeing a message about Condo Recycling rebates (about the time of the Leland brawl).

Come to think of it, it's been like pulling teeth getting the rebate (I think our treasurer pursued this 7 months ago)
    I guess they're busy?
