Bang, Bang, Shoot, Shoot

We can be thrilled to have shiny new stores, and the Mayor can visit Uptown for a day and tell us we can have shiny new stores but no more police, and at night it's the new "business as usual":

"Wanted to let you guys know that I heard gunshots last night (this morning) in the Magnolia area between 3.15 and 3.30am. I live on the 4500 block of Magnolia, and they sounded like they came from the Magnolia/ Sunnyside/ Malden area. I called 911 to report and a patrol car came through with its lights going just a couple of minutes later. Last time I heard and reported shots (a week ago Sunday, I think), someone ended up with a bullet hole in their apartment window, so I thought I'd let you know again."

"Lots of shots fired in rapid succession around 3:30am last night at/near 4400 block of Magnolia. Who needs an alarm clock in this hood?"

  1. Is there a CAPs meeting coming up soon where we can address some of the issues on Magnolia? This area is out of control and I have not seen any attempt to do anything about it.

  2. Their's been a few new faces around that area (racine-malden/montrose-wilson) the last few days. Some older, with 1 or 2 larger then your average poo-kee bear. Not a good sign.

  3. I was walking down Malden on Monday afternoon and one gang kid on a bike was shouting aggressively and without love in his heart at two other gang kids walking north.
I was fully prepared to seek cover if bullets started to fly.

    Stupid stuff.

The CAPS meeting for that area which is Beat 2311 is held on the first Tuesday of the month at Truman College at 7 pm. This upcoming meeting for August has been rescheduled. It will be held on August 10 th at Truman College at 7 pm.

There is plenty being done to address the problems of which you speak. Come to a CAPS meeting to find out.

Sometimes actions to stop a criminal enterprise are not done in the wide open for everyone to watch.

  6. I agree with BP's comments about fixing crime and CAPS meetings. Our neighbors have worked together to have several drug dealers and gang members evicted.

We did it by working together with all our neighbors who want a peaceful, safe neighborhood. Many of my neighbors who have become good friends were afraid to deal with the gang members who lived in their building.

We used our collective power and will continue to do this while we work on the next round of get-the-violent-disrespectful-disruptors moved out of our neighborhood.

Our plan is simple, 911 call trees (we often have 5-10 people calling 911 when there's an issue), phone calls and LETTERS to the property managers and BUILDING OWNERS--document, document, document. Gang and drug report with specific detail at the CAPS meetings, keep the pressure on the property manager and building owners.

Never give up--one by one the problem people are leaving, we're cleaning up our neighborhod

  7. Laura. Did you call 911? The number of calls is caluculated into the deployment of the police.

  8. I was awake at 3:30 catching up on some work when I also thought I heard about 6+ shots in rapid succession off in the distance.

  10. Kristen, sadly that is the story every night. I take the dogs out around 10-1030 every night and I feel like something's about happen. Isn't there some curfew law for under 18? everybody I saw out last night was young....

  11. 911 Trees are a great idea and would be very effective if used regulary.

  12. I saw a man walking around on the roof of the school on the 4400 block of Magnolia around 7pm last night. He seemed to be acting as a lookout or just casing the surrounding condo buildings. I called 911, but I don't know if the police responded. When I checked again around 7:30 he was gone.

  13. It's always the 4th of July in this 'zone'.
What exactly is the role of the private security people, I always see parked at these flash point areas? I'm curious. I'm sure they're making some sort of difference?

  15. Community Involvement, Community Involvement, Community Involvement.
Great to hear of this level of organization. More cops = more money = more tax. Citizens policing the hood en masse and using the system is certainly the largest part of the solution.
