Another Exciting Day At Wilson & Broadway

Dear UU,

I went on the blog today to read about the gang fight between the Vice Lords and the Black P Stones that occurred at the intersection of Wilson and Broadway at 4pm on Thursday, July 22, and to my surprise it wasn't mentioned.

Two Vice Lords were arrested, one was tased. Both are convicted felons. A few "concerned citizens" actually went to the 023 police station to complain that police used unnecessary force (tasing) on the young poor black kid (a convicted felon who detectives believe did a shooting two months ago on Magnolia against the Black P Stones).

Signed,

One Pissed-Off Police Officer

  1. Now that is what I like to see. Good work CPD!

I had been hearing rumors (from PD) this week of an impending gang riot in Sheridan Park. The P Stones have been out in full force the last few days (Including today).

Anybody want to put some odds of something going down tonight at 5ish?

  2. Seriously people, have you not seen what is going on in Uptown? The concerned citizen should have been tazed as well!

The police officers are doing what they can to curb gang violence, without the help of Alderman Schiller!

  3. Was this "concerned citizen" that complained about a criminal being tasered Helen Shiller? The asshole only got part of what he deserveres. I am sure if this concerned citizen had been harmed by the gang warfare she/he would think differently. Whiny bitches like this concerned citizen are one reason why things are the way they are in Uptown.

THANK YOU CPD FOR YOUR HARD WORK!!!

  4. Complaining about excessive force? Please. If they didn't tase him, who knows what he would have done.

The police need to show these people that this gang banging sh-t will not be tolerated.

  5. Isn't it funny how the "concerned citizens" just happened to be there when this incident took place? Were they really just innocent bystanders or are they just pissed because their friend/relative/etc... got caught?

  6. How can we tell the P Stones from the the Vice Lords from the Disciples...and the other ones? I know the long white t-shirt and hat colors are part of the uniform, but I don't know who represents what.

  7. Don't fight in our streets and do something with your life and you won't get tazed.

    Seems pretty simple to me...

I know the issue might be more complicted than that. But - How nice would it be if the gangs knew that all of Uptown had zero tolerance for their crap and just stayed away. Keep up the fight.

BTW - Has anyone attempted to count the number of cameras at the new Target. I am pretty sure that if you try any crap there and the security does not stop you, one of the seeming literally 100s of cameras will at least caputre your likeness. I don't think Vegas casinos have that many cameras and you know what, I say watch away big brother. I am not doing anything wrong....

  8. I was at the new Target when this happened. Such a shame because it's so nice inside! Soon to be rundown by all of this nonsense of these people thinking they own streets that they don't pay a dime for.

Stay safe my Uptown friends. I've since moved out but still keep tabs to see the progress you've made.

  9. I talked with one of the officer's last night and he indicated yesterday was just more "gang warfare." He also expects this to be a "deadly weekend" with the heat and everything else going on, so be careful in the neighborhood.

  10. I agree with CLC.... can we get the "low down" on who is who. Maybe when calling the police people can say who is hanging out in front of their building or wherever they are.

  11. CLC,

the dumber looking ones are the.........

Actually both groups are dumb looking.

    I dunno.

  12. I left Target yesterday feeling cautiously optimistic. The African restaurant across the street looked freshly painted, there are places for trees in the sidewalk, and there's nothing like legions of Lakeview yuppie parents in their SUVs mobbing the area to aid in the horrible effects of gentrification. Yes, I did skip home with my new garbage can and a year's worth of ziploc bags.

  13. CPD has support in Uptown. I hope one crackhead relative complaining doesn't give the impression that we're all a bunch of cop watchers. I'd more than welcome excessive police force, cops everywhere, thugs scattering like roaches, and safe clean streets that I can walk down at any hour of the day care-free.

The only people that have no fear are the gangs and I would LOVE to see that change.

  14. Go CPD! Keep up the good work keeping us (and you) safe. If any coppers from 023 are out there and reading this and need letters of support against the accounts of "concerned citizens" like these, hopefully UU will take the information and let us know. I know a lot of cops think our area is filled with yuppies who are anti-police, but that couldn't be further from the truth. They have more support than they'll ever know. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.

  15. CPD scores again. Great Job! I really am sick of people that go out of their way to complain about the police using unnecessary force against the poor Vice Lords and Black P Stones. Concerned citizens of these animals should direct their energy to get them the hell out of our ward instead of sticking up for them. I am for whatever force is needed by the police to clean out these gangs from our neighborhoods.

  16. We all need to tell tell police "Thanks" and we suppoet them. What would be the best way to do that?

  17. I'm somewhat new to Uptown although I've lived in Chicago my whole life. The problems in this area, like any neighborhood in this city, can be greatly altered by residents participation in community events and a general sense of ownership and a desire to keep the neighborhood clean and safe. This blog gives me hope that Uptown is not a lost cause. If you see something going on that is illegal, call the police and give a good description of the offenders. Anonymous calls are good but when the police have an actual complainant it is much better. I encourage people to continue to support the police in their efforts to keep our community safe. They are doing their best with limited manpower during this 2,000 officer deficit.
Has anyone gone to the misdemeanor or felony courts at Belmont and Western to see how our justice system works? I haven't gone to that particular branch but my experiences at 26/cal and branch 23 & 50 are disheartening. Judges throw so much out and criminals walk away without any real punishment. Thugs know they can commit crime without any consequences. I have personal experience with someone who carried a loaded semi-automatic handgun with the serial number filed and he had a prior weapons violation leave court with probation! When will the judges be held accountable for their disregard for our safety???

When you pass by them on foot say 'hello' and thank them for the job they are doing. I did that a few months ago and the police officer introduced himself, was very polite, and receptive. I didn't whine or complain about anything as they probably hear that all day long. I just made small chit chat and then went on my way.

I left that conversation feeling good and feeling proud to have them working in Uptown.

All I can hope is that it is a small number that are anti police.

    Thanks again CPD.

  19. I'd like to suggest that every UU reader wave hello at the police, on foot or in squad cars every time they see them. Just a friendly way to let them know we see them and appreciate their hard work. It's a simple 2 second thing, but I'm sure it would let them know we know.

  20. Brian, do you work at the Target? I didn't think it opened until 7/25. Just curious if you were actually in there, or if you were just making up a story?

  21. Thank you CPD! We support you out here.

  22. Target has been open for a few days now as a soft opening to get the staff ready for the grand opening.

If you go by there the front doors say "Now Open." It's nice, it's big, it's much like any other Target but the prices are higher since they have no other big box competition in the immediate area.

Check it out. They have a cool escalator just for carts that Chip Douglas loves.

There's a brand new law in Illinois that someone who is caught carrying a loaded gun and who doesn't have an FOID card can no longer be sentenced to probation. This was signed into law just a few days ago. (Generally, people with felonies are ineligible for FOID cards.)

When it was being considered for a vote in Springfield this spring, a group of Chicagoans went to testify about why it was important. That group included Ron Holt, the father of Blair Holt, the young man who was shot to death on a CTA bus protecting another passenger. (Ron Holt was recently made head of the CAPS program.) It included a Latina lady whose child was killed by someone who had been released on probation for carrying a loaded gun. The group also included Uptown's own Richard Thale, who is James Cappleman's partner.

After they spoke to the subcommittee about why this law could make a difference, the subcommittee voted to approve it to the entire Senate. That bill was signed into law on July 19th.

Sadly, if the law had been in effect earlier, two of the three people who are accused of killing Ofcr Wortham in front of his home would have been behind bars instead of out on probation. It would have made a big difference in Uptown as well, since a lot of our shooters have previously been arrested for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and have received probationary sentences.

These laws may be late in coming, but they're going to be very effective in putting and keeping people in jail instead of letting them out on probation.

Baby steps. But steps that will have a big effect on sentencing.

People really don't understand that bad Judges throwing cases out usually because witnesses fail to show burns cops out more than anything else. I was at area 3 a month ago for criminal assault against a fire fighter. I was the only witness that showed out of 25+ cases, I saw everyone of them tossed out. On the flipside it was a joke that my guy got probation (he had been arrested 50 times in the last year tell me he wasn't already on probation) Liberal City Judges are JOKES !

    ReplyDelete
  27. We have liberal Judges and Assistant States Attorneys who don't want any losses on their record so they don't even try to prosecute. They only want total slam dunk cases. Another example: Video footage of two criminals pushing a motorcycle down the street away from the location where it was parked inside a mechanics shop clearly showing them in control of this stolen motor vehicle; the attorneys says "well, sure it shows them pushing it out of the shop but it doesn't show them in the shop." They throw it out. Yeah, because the motorcycle must have flown through the door and magically into these two innocent bystander's waiting arms. What a joke. (This is what happens on the West Side)
When people turn a blind eye and allow this type of behavior to run rampant it gets out of control and becomes a way of life. We can't let it get out of control in Uptown or there is no stopping it.

  28. Thank You Uptonians!

I was in the middle of the malay. My partner was the one who tased Darryl Rowe (Vice Lord who was shot at Clarendon Park last month by P Stones) after he threw a large piece of concrete into a crowd of P Stones and bystanders trying to get out of the way. Then he got on a bike and tried to get away. I reached for my taser to keep back the P Stones back when panic struck... MY TASER WASN'T THERE!!! CPD only allows 1 taser per car because CPD didn't buy enough tasers. I pulled out my gun and chased the P Stones back to their terrority. It was just the two of us against 20 or so gangbangers.

Unfortunately, people only take the time to complain... never to appreciate. While we were locking up the 2 VL's my Sgt. told me that people were comming into the station to complain about the use of force. The Commander also had to field calls that came into her office about the force that the police used.

I always appreciate when people come up to me and thank me for the job that I am doing. It is defenately a mood lifter. We take the oath to serve and protect the citcizens of Chicago. We don't do it for fame, money or recognition. We constantly get beat down by our Command staff who don't have our backs, jugdges who let felons walk out of court, the Reverends who cry race, the liberal media who spin stories to get you to watch their news, BS lawsuits by criminals, and bad cops who make all of us look bad!

Thanks UU Bloggers...it is nice to be appreciated!!! We are in a war against the thugs but unfortunately the police officers hands are the ones that are handcuffed!
    Thank a Cop

  29. Been gone a year now. Miss the city but not the violence. I tip my cap to the police and being out there every day. I used to listen to my police scanner all the time and you develope a real respect for what these men and women are doing out there. Uptown is a challange. I hope that all of you find the peace and safety you have worked so hard for all these years. After 13 years, I had to get out. I was too close to the action living across the street from Clarendon Park. I'm in Lake Zurich now. Not the city, but haven't heard a gunshot in a year now. I used to complain about Cops. Not after living in Chicago.
    You couldn't pay me enough.

  30. Where do I go to protest the excessive use of force used on the 3 dead cops?

  31. Thank you CPD for everything you do for this community. I agree with UPS boy...take 5 minutes to listen to the online Chicago police scanner and you'll be amazed with all the crap they have to deal with. There's a reason why the CPD feed is in the top 10 most listened stations.

  32. Many thanks to all the fine Chicago Police who do an exemplary job with their hands basically tied by the city, mayor, courts, and lawless "citizens" who have no respect for anyone. That area of the city particularly stinks and no amount of yuppies visiting will help. They will just provide fresh victims.

The west side gets lots of attention for being full of ghetto bangers. But this area is just as bad. I have stopped going around there to my fav restaurants PRECISELY because of all the thugs on the streets.

Don't let those bogus complaints by the bangers relatives get you down. I'm glad you tasered them.
Once these creeps know this might happen, maybe they won't be so bold. I can't believe you guys only have one taser, (well, yes I can) they waste money on lining their pockets in this city.

God Bless the Chicago Police and please stay safe.

  33. I also want to remind people out there who see illegal activity that you are allowed to capture video footage of these criminals who are on the public way. You are NOT allowed to record sound though. If your residence has a good vantage point of drug dealers doing their deals, I suggest you contact your district's tactical team and allow them to do surveillance. We all need to do our part to get these thugs arrested.

  34. I am a former Chicago Police officer and currently work for another law enforcement agency. Do yourself a favor..go out and buy a police scanner! Listen to what is going on in Chicago. Those of you who have little or no sympathy might change your feelings toward the police. We were warned in the 80's that crack cocaine was going to produce superpredator children...and look what we have now. These kids in gangs have little or no fear of the police..because they have NO fear of their own parents. I never got into trouble with the police because I knew I would get it from BOTH parents. My father and mother always backed each other up on their decisions regarding our punishment. We turned out pretty good. I've worked in a court room at 26th and California as a Sheriff and worked rough neighborhoods on the south side. Uptown is realitively calm compared to the south and west sides. However, the neighborhood should not tolerate any of the savage behavior which rears its ugly heard in your neighborhood. When I worked special details up on the north side, or worked my days off on the CTA trains undercover, most of the mutts I dealt with in Uptown were from the south side. You people are easy prey..and the savages know that. On top of that..there are way too many liberal do gooders up there. Wait till they get their heads bashed in with a baseball bat. Support the police...do not support those who leach off our society and prey on those of us who work hard, pay our taxes, don't do drugs, take care of our children, went to school, respect our elders, and respect our neighbors!

  35. Thanks for posting this. I am now a retired Chicago Police Officer that worked in Special Operations. Things are changing out there on the streets from the friends I know who work in Uptown. As many of your readers and posters have stated. PLEASE go up and talk to your Officer's. They are more then willing to talk to you back. They need you as much as you need them, if the citizens and the police work together it will make for safer streets. Video these gangbangers if they are on a public way it is legal, the video's are very very helpful to get these scum off the streets. support the Officer's by writing letters to their Commander for a job well done. If people are marching into the District complaining about "necessary force", good citizens can march into the District as well as well and support the Officers that did their job properly. It is nice to see citizens concerned about their neighborhood and especially about their Police.

Here is another blog on blogger well written about what is going on internally inside of CPD and how demoralized the Department has become and WHY. It is well worth the read for you and your followers.

  36. Good job, CPD! Glad to see that some of those who forget that we have laws are getting put in line a bit. Perhaps the "concerned citizens" should try to reign in these bangers instead of harassing the police. Maybe tasering these guys when they resist arrest for drug dealing and rioting would slow down the drug trade and fights.

  37. Like upsboy, I'm gone from Edgewater/Uptown too and also miss Chicago (moved to Denver for personal reasons). And while I've often gotten into verbal skirmishes with a few folks here, I've always thought the police did their job the best they could with what they had to work with and supported them (Guys like Big Daddy, etc.). After all, if something goes down, who are the "concerned citizens" going to call to help them...the gangbangers or the police? And where is this concern over "excessive force" when gangbangers use "excessive force" to take over the neighborhood? Have any of the people who showed up to complain about "excessive force" ever gotten together to level the same anger at the bangers? Not merely shake their heads and tsk tsk the day way, but actually confronted them? I doubt it seriously. Let them get tasered today. Perhaps they won't end up being a shooting victim tomorrow.

  39. The traditional colors of the conservative vice lord and travelling vice lord sets are red and black.

The colors of the Black Pstone nation are also black and red. The St. Louis Cardinals hat is favored by this group. (Often seen worn on magnolia.)

Both gangs can be seen wearing white and black too. White and black is like urban camo. It helps them blend in better. Sometimes a red shirt will be worn on top with white underneath. This way the gang member can represent when they need to and hide when they have to.

These gangs both ride under the banner of the people nation. It is not unusual for two gangs under the same "alliance" to fight one another.

    I hope this helps.

(My source is these mean streets)

  40. I said it before i'll say it again. We need to pass laws that allow law enforcement to treat gangbangers as terrorists because that's what they are. Look at history, what does it tell us. Who has killed more people? Gangbangers. Whoever reads this should make the effort to make this happen.
