CHA To Put Security In Malden Building

We wonder what it must be like, having a legislator who makes laws and an alderman who addresses crime and community issues.

Because that isn't the case in the 46th Ward, our legislator is doing the alderman's busy work.  Maybe by this time next year, our legislators can be doing their jobs because our alderman will be doing his.

In any case, some very good news, forwarded from a reader:

I was told by the CHA this morning they are going to be assigning private security to [4425 N Malden] to help bring things under control.  Let your neighbors know.  If there are further incidents, give me a head's up!

Rep. Greg Harris
13th District

  1. Hopefully it's not Katy's Security. They patrol around the Sunnyside/Magnolia area and they don't do anything. In fact, I think they are friends with all the gang affiliates. It's a real false sense of security.

  2. I believe "Kates" security is of the observe and report mantra. I am not sure if they are reporting, but it feels good someone is observing.

It's kind of Like the Irish Pirate just "observing" the working girls at Malden & Leland. I don't care if he buys anything, it just makes me feel good that he is out there being a part of the community!

As for Rep Harris. Kudos my man. Name another local politicization that responds to their constituents that fast? I got an email from Heather Steans on 11/12/09 in response to a letter I wrote on Feb 6, 2009! And after living in Helen's ward for the last seven years I was elated I even got a response at all. So, in about three months I will be sending a 'thank you" response to Senator Steans.

  3. Glad there is going to be added security, but it stinks that it has to come to this because we the taxpayers are the ones ultimately paying for it.

  4. This is good. BUT.......
Why does a state senator have to do the requesting? Why isn't the CHA on it? Why isn't the damn alderman on it? Why are things that should be Standard Operating Procedure so hard to do in the 46th Ward?

  5. Wow! An attentive politician. Want to rent some office space on the 4500 block of Broadway? It is kinda violent on that block, there are a lot of drunks and intoxicated folks wandering around, the nearby public transportation is still pretty nasty, and there are illegal street vendors everywhere...BUT, there is going to be an empty office that would suit any Politician's needs that will be vacant soon enough!

  6. CHA needs to be held accountable for their residents, and any crime/trouble they bring to the neighborhood. If it can be proven that their residents are a threat to public safety, SUE the bastards! Force them out of Uptown!

  7. Does anyone know when the security is supposed to be in place at 4425 N Malden? I witnessed (and reported) 5 drug deals between 6:30 and 6:45p at the 4425 N Malden property.

The buyers were African American between ages of 50 and 60. The dealer appeared to be about 15 years old, wearing a purplish blue shirt with jeans and was riding a bike.

  8. Security is good but not enough. Security cameras should be installed inside and outside the building as they were in the drug dealing CHA scattered site building on North Kenmore.
