A reader writes that someone has cut the locks with which Maryville's owners restricted access to the the grounds and has claimed it for themselves:
"Here are a couple pics I snapped last night on the Montrose side of Maryville. As you can see, there's a not so well hidden camp site, and someone has cut the lock on the gate, replacing it with a nut and bolt arrangement that "locks" it when they're away."
They are climbing through the bent fence bars. I saw them do it.
ReplyDeleteThere was a young man out there yesterday mowing the lawn. Perhaps he did it intentionally to get in to do maintenance. But, I agree, a few people have gone in there this Spring. And, even when the police come to oust them, they still refuse to write anything up, including the incident report required by the vacant building ordinance.

"Law: Prosecuting all vacant and open buildings that are sent to the Department of Administrative Hearings and the Circuit Court of Cook County. For police citations, the City will seek fines and orders to secure the buildings at the Department of Administrative Hearings. For non-compliant buildings, inspections will occur and the Law Department will prosecute those violations at the Circuit Court of Cook County. For prosecuted violations, the Law Department will seek four basic remedies: demolition, forfeiture, forced rehabilitation, or forced sale."
I live right across the street 25 stories up and see teenagers jump over the fence and pull out bats and who know what else from the bushes and jump back over and go down Clarendon toward Wilson. I guess the gangs have a new spot to hide their weapons.
ReplyDeleteI have also seen homeless going over the bars and making a sleeping place behind the bushes. Let hope the management does more checks on their vacant property. They should hire a guard to patrol the inside and outside areas.
