And We Shall Know Them By Their Acts

A reader from the 900 block of Agatite writes:  "We may have been forgotten by our Alderman, but our gangs have not forgotten us. Our and our neighbor's garages were recently tagged in the alley."

At gang seminars the police hold for area residents, police officers encourage residents not only to call 311 for gang tag removal, but to send photos to their local police district so the officers can track who the gangs are and where they're moving.

  1. I really don`t think some pictures of the gang tags do much good. The cops already know the tags and where they hang. Little can be done that is effective specially if they are minors except for calling 911 or 311. If only the cops could give them the treatment like they use to in the good old days. The effect of the long arm of the law was a lot more effective then what can be done to them today.

  2. Yes, it does do good to send pictures of the tags - the point is not to show what the tag looks like...but to show the address that has been tagged so cops can track the gangs' movements. In case this isn't obvious to anyone else, if you're sending in a photo of a tag and the address is not obvious on the photo, write it on the photo...

What is that supposed to mean?! You sound like a fan of Burge! Cops are not paid to dole out punishment. They are paid to enforce the law and make arrests.

  4. WiseguyFishing, if the gang cops say send photos, then... send photos. They ask because they want photos. Geez.
