You're Gonna Pay...

...to park along the lakefront. A reader sends us this pic from Montrose Harbor showing one of the newly installed payboxes.

  1. I can imagine the lines now.
Thanks Dick. I mean Mayor Daley.

  2. Hmmm...looks like R2D2's skinny twin. What other sci-fi character do UU readers think it resembles?

  3. So much for open, FREE and clear.

This is what happens when you divert public funds to private developers and fish farms.

  4. Wow, the last free parking along the lakefront on the northside and they just HAVE to charge for parking now, thanks city of Chicago!

I was afraid this was gonna happen some time ago when the the other entrances along the lake were gated instead of using meters, such as Belmont, Diversey, etc...

Driving in Chicago is becoming a HUGE hassle. Oh well.

  5. The metal scavengers managed to remove all the pipes from the underside of the yacht club trailers that used to house the restrooms and showers at Montrose Harbor. Almost all the access plates are missing from the street light bases, too. so are the sewer covers, every once and awhile.

I can only imagine the joy our metal scavenger's hearts as they eye these babies, soon to be sitting out there loaded with quarters, alone, in the dark, with no one around.
