Uptown, As Heard By The Police

Timmy, the author of the Avondale and Logan Square Crime Blotter blog, wrote to UU on Sunday evening:

"I listen to a police scanner, in order to do my blog.  I am currently not blogging, and I'm a little bored, so I thought I'd blog Uptown for a little while.  I thought your readers would be interested in the type of 911 calls coming into Uptown.  I am listening to CPD radio Zone 2 (which carries the majority of Uptown on it).  I am blogging Beats 1922 (east of Ravenswood and north of Montrose), 2311, 2312, 2313, 2322 and the north half of 2323.  If your readers are unsure of the terms I use in my blogging, please tell them to email me at weatherboy58@hotmail.com.  I'd be really happy to explain it to them.

"The boundaries for Uptown, the ones I will be using anyway, are Lawrence to the north, the lake to the east, Ravenswood (Montrose to Lawrence) and Clark (Irving Park to Montrose) to the west, and Montrose (Ravenswood to Clark) and Irving Park to the south (Clark to the lake)."

9:58pm - Vice complaint (usually people doing drugs).  On the 10 sector of the 23rd Dist. (either Beat 2311, 2312 or 2313).

10:20pm - Beat 2305 needs a car to help him clear out Montrose Harbor.

10:28pm - Beat 6736.  Frank has a street stop at Wilson and Marine Drive.

10:53pm - Battery in progress.  Kenmore and Wilson.  People beating a girl.

10:54pm - A slow down is being given on the 10:53pm job.  There's nothing going on.

10:58pm - Beat car 1922 gets a parking violation call on the computer.

10:59pm - Narcotics.  4150 N Marine Drive.  Behind Disney School is a male Black selling drugs.  Near the park.

11:05pm - Montrose Harbor and Beach have been successfully cleared out.

  2. I don't see a link to the Zone 2 scanner on the radioreference.com page. Anyone know how he was able to listen to it online?

  3. There is a "Scanner 911" iPhone app that is pretty useful for listening to Chicago and other police radios. Of course it is only reliable as the people broadcasting police band radio, but for the most part it works really well.

  4. Sean, I wasn't listening to it online. I own a legally, store-brought police scanner.
