Three Years Ago Today ...
... Uptown Update's first post read: "We hope that this can be a resource for the citizens of Uptown to get up to date on the latest happenings in the 46th Ward and maybe become inspired to make our neighborhood a better place to live. A little sarcasm and wit never hurt either."
The team who puts together UU has changed and grown considerably in the past three years. When these words were typed, we never thought we'd live with a subpoena fromAld. Shiller's Peter Holsten's attorneys hanging over our heads for a year. We never dreamed footage we ran would end up on CNN and every news outlet in Chicago. But we hope we've lived up to our end of the bargain. Here's to more positive change, to more great neighbors, to more happenings, and to more snark. (Don't say we didn't warn you!)

keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Uptown Update!
ReplyDeleteI was going to go out and celebrate with Irish Pirate today, but seeing how it is after 3pm I assume he is either A. Inebriated or Passed Out Already or B. Ogling his autographed Sarah Palin poster he waited in line 13 hours for this week before her speech at the Rosemont Theatre.
Here is hoping February brings big changes to Uptown so a site like Uptown Update becomes obsolete! Here Here!
Happy Birthday Uptown Update.
ReplyDeleteBy the way it was Holsten's attorney who filed the subpoena.
Any connection between Shiller and that attorney were purely coincidental. Like her son sharing an office address.
Coincidental. Sure, no connection at all.
I'm sure UU will continue after Shiller has left the scene, but it just won't be as much fun.
Anyway Happy Birthday and I'll be celebrating with nudity and drunkenness. Which describes my life anyway.
Many congrats! UU is a great resource for residents, and was an inspiration for us creating our Edgewater blog. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which....didn't even realize that this is OUR birthday weekend as well. I swear, we're not copycats :)
Chiperrramadingdong,
ReplyDeleteDidn't I see you at the Admiral Theater the other night for the Palin lookalike contest?
I made sure to sit behind you.
I felt bad for the guy sitting in front of you.
Who knew we had so much to blog about?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, y'all.
ReplyDeleteIt's so refreshing to have an entity in this ward who actually does give voice to the voiceless.
Curious twist, no?
Oh well - karma's a bitch.
Keep up the good work.
HEY! Watch where you shoot that thing? Blogs are dangerous. People could get hurt.
ReplyDeleteI heard somewhere that the truth hurts. I think it was a drunken Irish Pirate that said it.
I shall formally file a request to spread a little of that TIF wealth around. Would you object if I spread it around back into your schools and parks?
Congratulations! You've been a godsend ever since I moved to Uptown and even though I'll soon be leaving... I plan on keeping up with UU. You guys are great and I can't thank you enough for what you've created!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday UU!
ReplyDeletehappy birthday! out of your terrible 2s!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday UU! You're doing a heck of a Job, "Uppie"!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you admit you are snarky.
ReplyDeleteI will also give you a backhanded compliment...
You guys write better than the trib and ST combined.
Happy Birthday.
congrats. a must read every day!
ReplyDeletekeep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteWhat footage did you guys have on CNN? Link? Congrats on the birthday!
ReplyDelete-Brian
I don't see any birthday congrats from the Alderbeast?. Perhaps she intends to commemorate you in this month's city council journal.
ReplyDeleteBrianbobcat, the footage of the street riot last August was on CNN, both on the iCNN page and in a report on Chicago's unsafe streets. (One of our readers said a friend in South America saw it and contacted him!)
ReplyDeleteSadly, things haven't changed much at that corner, as per the video from Thursday.
