46th Ward Alderman Candidates Address the Issues

  1. I truly hope all Chicagoans are tired of career politicians working for themselves. Lets hope that Daley is a gonner as well as every other incumbent Alderman....including HELLen.

    Time for some new politicians.

  2. I would like to see someone not employed by the city to be our alderman.

  3. I hope this all comes down to one strong candidate against Shiller, otherwise it is classic divide and conquer.

  4. My fantasy is that, if there's a run-off election, Shiller's not even on the ballot.

  5. If Nowotny is the superintendent of streets and sanitation right NOW, why are our streets crumbling and full of shoddy patch work?

Nowotny says he knows how to get things done? What has he been doing up to this point? Sleeping?

Think of Nowotny with every pothole you hit and every spray painted tag you see on the walls, mailboxes, and telephone poles. And don't forget the the trash piling up everywhere around you too.

Think hard before thinking about voting for Nowotny. As a matter of fact, do all of us a favor and don't vote Nowotny at all.

Look around NOW...not right before election day.

  6. This is going to be so entertaining...

Not one candidate wants to cut down on the level of homeless shelters and subsidized housing in the area. Political hot potato?

I am voting for Irish Pirate anyway...

  7. BTW: Just vote for me when you get your ballot!!!

  8. uh Jason, you cannot expect one interview to cover where they stand on all the issues.

If you want to know where they stand, go ask them. My bets are that all of them want more balance in the ward. How they do that will be the political hot potato. Don started off on that very subject by shooting himself in the foot as will later become evident.

  9. "Streetscaping Friends of Don Nowotny" are already seeing returns.

He's not even the alderman yet.

  10. Can we talk about the fact that Don got his job from Helen and for the 15 years he has worked for streets and sans he never said a peep against her?! and now he wants her job cause she is doing a bad job?

Please fix and clean our streets first then we'll talk.

The CPD candidate seems well qualified but I would not care for a part-time alderman. He is involved in too many things to run the ward properly. I cannot even begin to wonder where this man would find the time to really get in volved to make Uptown the kind of neighborhood we can only dream of as of yet.

    ------------------------

Isn't alderman already a part-time job? It should be full-time, but I think its currently not.

CPD candidate Carroll will have to stop being the CPD when elected, so I think you're all good Lil' Joey. Plus, when is community involvement a bad thing?

  13. Take Back 46, I so agree. Now what was it again that Carrol has done in the 46th Ward? I didn't catch that. I know he started doing a few things right before his announcement, but I can't seem to recall anything else.

  14. OH man, this election is going to be so much fun.

I'm all tingly inside. No, it's not the psychotropic drugs that make me feel that way.

    God, I hope Shiller runs.

If you combine a Shiller loss with a Daley loss I might not be able to type for a month.

I would be in a 30 day alcoholic bender of biblical proportion.

  15. God I hope this doesn't turn into a freak show.....(could it get any worse up here??)

I'm not sure I understand the dynamic of a Helen appointed person running against her.

I would hope anyone running for a 100k plus a year job, with a fat pension, would do well as long as they are willing to communicate and connect with his or her neighbors?

  16. In the last 16 years, there have been challengers who have expressed similar ideas as Don's and he never supported any of them. Instead, he supported Helen.

Now, he is suddenly opposed to Helen's policies and has seen the light when it comes to addressing crime and improving retail. He purposely killed his chances of getting any of Helen's voters by saying no more low income housing in the ward. It was a calculated move on his part and Helen clapped her hands when she heard it. If Helen ever needed someone to sway votes away from her biggest challenger, it is now.

I have 2 criteria for making my choice to vote for and give money to. The one with the best plan to improve the ward and most importantly, the one who has the best chance of beating Helen.
