We're promised that "Fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers are just some of the goods that will be sold at the
Uptown Farmers Market every Thursday from June 24-October 7." We're reserving judgment on just how true that is, but at least we know there'll be one vendor:
Farm Fresh Farms co-op of Illinois (which is exactly one more vendor that we had last year, and equals the number of vendors the year before).
Here are some area farmers markets. We can't wait!
- Uptown: Weiss Hospital, 4646 N Marine
Thursdays 8am-1pm, June 24-Oct. 7
- Lincoln Square: Lincoln, Leland and Western
Tuesdays 7am-1pm, June 8-Oct. 26
- Andersonville: Berwyn between Clark & Ashland
Wednesdays 3-8pm from June 23-Sept. 8; 3-7pm from Sept. 15-Oct. 6
- North Center: North Center Town Square, Damen and Lincoln
Saturdays 7am-1pm, June 19-Oct. 30
Lincoln Square also has one on Thursday evenings. Not 100% sure of the exact times, but it is the same location as the Tuesday morning one.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Uptown market will be "community-centric" and feature Cheetos (in small bags), nail painting, miniture bottles of booze, generic ciggies, and Ice House.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget hair braiding vendors.
ReplyDeleteWhat crap for the Uptown market. It appears that the organizers want it to be a failure. 8-1 during the week? Whatever.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget bricks, shopping carts, socks, baseball bats, belts but not for wearing.
ReplyDelete8 am to 1 pm... on a Thursday? Well, I guess I will have to work from home on Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteIf you have seen the schedule for the farmers markets throughout the city, you'll notice that most are during the week in the a.m. to early afternoon. So don't feel like you're getting shafted just because the "organizers want it to be a failure."
ReplyDeleteWhy do the people that come and post here always see things so negatively? I don't quite understand.
Why do the people that come and post here always see things so negatively? I don't quite understand.
ReplyDeleteIt shouldn't be so difficult to comprehend.
When a group of people have been historically ignored, disregarded, lied to, and generally cast to the way side on decisions which affect them, the negativism will usually outweigh any positive.
It's political karma.
What I don't understand is that in the face of the massive waves of animosity, no one in a position to generate change does anything.
Most of the folks who post here would like nothing more than a reason to support something positive.
Too bad all of that useful energy is exhausted trying to keep a system which has failed so many, for so long, costing so much and producing so very little, from making even more mistakes.
Did I say "exhausted"? I meant "wasted" since the system ignorantly stumbles along making the same mistakes over and over and over and over again.
Sucks. I know.
i'm excited about the farmer's market. Of course, I live across the street and I work from home. So, bluestreak, if you want some fresh produce i'll buy some for you and you can pick it up after work. That's the kind of guy I am.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andy. I work from home too so will probably make it over there.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to having fresh fruits and vegetables.
To "." I feel positive about the Broadway streetscape improvements. Just want to add that in there. Residents of Uptown have given numerous reasons to be negative. You have to agree to some degree.
