Rail Tie Falls Off, Crashes Into Car Parked Below

RED LINE / 'Somebody could have been walking there'

When Audra Adomenas heard that a CTA rail tie had fallen onto her fiance's parked car near the Sheridan Red Line station, she hoped it had just glanced off the side. But when she got to the alley, she found that the tie had crashed right through the roof and totaled the 2000 white Crown Victoria.

  1. Great, another reason why the L will be slow around Sheridan. This has gotta be a piece from the Purple line tracks cause they just finished replacing all the red line ties. Also, those purple line ties are just as dilapidated as the red ones were, plus they were part of the whole "slow zone" but for some reason the CTA removed the whole length on their map despite doing no service in the outer tracks. Anyone have a photo?

  2. There is alot of government culpability in this situation. It goes well beyond knowing and willful neglect by the City and the CTA.

The CTA has been aware of the problem of debris falling from the tracks near Irving and Sheridan but they continue to refuse to make the fix, even at Challenger Park where there is a 15 year-old-contract City/CTA/Park District/CUBS contract that specifies that shields must be installed to protect cars and residents below.

What are they waiting for? A dead body lying on the street?
