With apologies to the Bard, "Something is rotten in the state of Uptown."
Lake Effect News has some further musings on the state of our million-dollar TIFish Farm, including the "greenwashing" of the project, and this pungent scenario:
Most opponents look at Shiller’s proposed fish farm as a misuse of TIF funds, but there are other issues which should also be examined, such as wear and tear on the neighborhood. For example, fish die. Some fish farms compost, especially if they do not have enough dead fish (under 100 pounds) to interest commercial rendering companies. They compost in large on-site bins where fish are covered with poultry litter and allowed to “cook” for six months. Then again, it couldn’t smell any worse than the Popeye’s Chicken at Wilson and Broadway.
Read all about it here. Kudos, Hannah Gitner!
Alderman Shiller...Bringing stench to Broadway...Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWhat do we have to do to stop this non-sense?
ReplyDeleteIf I wanted to be on a farm I would move to Iowa.
This is an environmental nightmare waiting to happen.
Not to mention a huge money loser no matter how you add it up.
Where does she come up with these cockamamie ideas in the first place?
I would imagine that projects like these utilize some kind of odor-abatement substances in their compost piles, dontcha think?
ReplyDeleteWhy Gayle, I wonder if you're noticing a tad bit of distrust with Helen? Ever thought why so many people distrust her? Would you want to know?
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine lives near the sewage treatment plants near Harlem and I-55. When the winds are not favorable, the stench is horrible. And that is out in the middle of nowhere! A fish compost heap doesn't belong in an urban environment!
ReplyDeleteI actually rather enjoy the smell of Popeyes... Fish? Not so much.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the Bard?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like the fish-farm idea... I wish I could get more details. But, of course, I can't.
I apologize in advance for the snarky response, Jason, but I have been waiting a looooong time for the perfect moment to share this!!!
ReplyDeleteWho is the Bard?
Thanks for being the first, Romeo.
